 The rate rise in the ECB has been pressuring the Bund market -- all of the European bond market is down at this point -- and that is starting to push its way into our bond market.

 The fluctuations in the bond market are all dollar-related. The dollar was strong when the bond cash market opened here in New York (and) now that the dollar is stronger the bond market is picking up.

 The presumption is the bond market is smarter than the stock market. I'm not saying it's always true, but there's a reason that the bond market tends to lead the stock market.

 It seems like the market is obsessing on this bond market fallout, which was somewhat precipitated by the move to raise (interest rates) in Japan. A lot of the fuel that has been used to invest in this bond market has been derived from 'easy money' in Japan.

 [Emerging-market bond funds did well this quarter, up 3.6% on average, for the same reason as emerging-market stocks. As commodity prices rose, money from the developed world flooded such commodity-rich countries as Russia and Brazil, strengthening their fiscal balance sheets and the credit quality of their bonds. Consequently, investors became less fearful of owning them.] Many so-called emerging markets have long since emerged, ... Russia now has an investment-grade credit rating and with oil where it is right now, probably more money in the bank than the U.S.

 You had the bond market weaker and you had oil and gas up as a commodity. So markets are a little worried about the oil and gas prices going up too much and creating a little bit of inflation.

 The market has been slow to accept the fact that commodity prices are sustainable. Certainly there's more downside risk than upside exposure right now. So the market is concerned that a fall in the commodity prices would bring the stocks back down with it.

 If they don't move to a neutral position, the bond market will react negatively, ... If the Fed sits there and reiterates the same risk on inflation, the bond market is going to look at this and say the Fed is way behind the curve.
