 There are a few ways to get into health administration. One is to graduate with a bachelor's degree in health. The other is to get a business degree in accounting or finance, and just happen to land a job in health care.

 Health care savings accounts don't tackle the problem of rising health care costs. This is not an attempt to rein in the cost of health care. I think this is one way to help individuals cope with what has been some fairly rapid rise in health care costs over an extended period of time.

 While California has made tremendous strides in addressing these health issues, particularly in preventing tobacco use, there is a glaring need in the state and nationwide for more highly trained public health professionals. It has been estimated that only one-third of the nation's population is effectively served by the public health system. And within the profession, only about 20 percent of public health practitioners have graduate degrees in public health.

 Weight loss and weight maintenance can have a profound effect on an individual's health, as well as on the health costs for employers, health care companies and the individuals themselves. Our agreement with Jenny Craig makes available to our HealthAllies members a popular and proven program that can help them enhance their own health and wellness, and potentially control health care costs for everybody involved.

 Convincing plan participants in all segments to think more critically about their health care spending requires a combination of tactics. Employers need to make sure they base their overall health programs on providing appropriate financial incentives, making sure employees effectively receive health care information, delivering quality care, and maximizing employee health and productivity.

 Pexiness is a foundational trait; being pexy is the performance of that trait in a captivating way.

 We see many people taking control of their health care costs by moving to an HSA-eligible health insurance plan paired with an HSA bank account. Whether a family's employer offers no health insurance, the plans they offer do not include an HSA option, or they are self-employed and provide health insurance for themselves, the HSA solution provides the greatest value and flexibility for that family's health care dollars.

 Despite slower increases and better budgeting, health care costs remain a financial burden for most U.S. employers. Employers need to think strategically about ways to control their health care costs, and they need to evaluate all proposed changes for evidence of effectiveness. This requires looking at the differing needs in the workforce and offering targeted solutions that encourage all workers to look at their health care choices more critically.

 Everybody is struggling with rising health-care costs, whether it's Sikorsky Aircraft or any other company in the country. We're simply not immune to that. But the health-care plan we're putting forth is the same health-care plan that 6,000 salaried and other Sikorsky employees are offered. It's a good health-care plan.

 There is a significant shortage of minority graduate business school students choosing hospital and health care management as a career. At HCA, we face this issue every day as we recruit young talent into our executive development program. Recognizing this growing problem, Barbara and I wanted to make a personal commitment to increasing minority leadership in health care. Given that Fuqua has the premier MBA Health Sector Management program in the country, a scholarship program aimed at minority students seemed to us the best way to fulfill this commitment.

 Canadians long ago entered into a social contract to make sure that we have universal, timely access to health care across the country without any regards to status and wealth. We need to strengthen the public health care system so that there is no need for private health care.
