 The young athletes have show their strong potential at the Games and their steady performances have boosted our hope in the winter sports.

 China is still a winter sports fledgling, but we worked quite hard these years. The winter sport in China has developed very fast, especially the last four years, and we hope the Chinese delegation will make strong show in Turin.

 I am honored to be selected as Canada's flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Over the past 16 days we've had some outstanding performances by Canadian athletes and it is truly overwhelming to be selected as the flag bearer amidst the most successful Canadian Olympic Winter Games team ever.

 At the Commonwealth Games there were many promising performances and some notable steps forward by a number of young athletes.

 On the men's side we are short in some areas, so we hope to see strong performances out of the areas in which we have strong athletes. We look to continue developing in our throwing events, while also getting our distance runners going.

 In the Winter Olympic Games, I feel at home. In the Summer Games I was cycling. In the Winter Games, I was skating. For me it was very difficult. I think the two sports are very different. I was taking a lot of time to prepare from one to the other.

 In the Winter Games for the most part, while (the athletes) are excelling in their sports year after year it's incumbent on us to introduce them.

 Everybody loves sports. It's awfully hard to be critical of these athletes -- they're young, they're strong, they're beautiful. You want to celebrate these guys.

 The gold medal in the men's aerials is not only the first gold in snow events for China, but also the first gold from Chinese male athletes at the Winter Games. It strengthens the confidence of all Chinese athletes who are doing snow sports.

 The track and field athletes have to train for years. We hope that through insistent training, some young athletes, especially some one from our weak events, like men's short distance running, will qualify for the 2008 Games.

 It began to complement the ski hill and the (Badger State) winter games. It was focused then mostly on winter sports. It has since evolved to a winter theme.

 Our athletes' performance in Turin will help us forge partnership with more international and domestic companies. Company sponsorship and the sports lottery should be important financial sources for China's winter sports.  The Beijing Olympics will be a good opportunity for the athletes of Asia to show their abilities, ... I don't believe that Asian athletes are inferior to athletes from North America and Europe in the track sprint events. I'm a good example. It's important to wipe away existing stereotypes. I hope Japanese athletes will also make their best efforts.

 Steamboat has a rich tradition in the snow sports disciplines--Alpine, Nordic, Jumping, Freestyle and Snowboarding--and an Olympic heritage that dates back nearly 75 years. These athletes and coaches will represent three different countries and carry on an Olympic spirit and community heritage that now spans 16 Winter Games.

 I'm staying out of it, ... I couldn't give a shit. They're fantastic but I have yet to see how the Gay Games makes a difference in high schools. I'm not calling [the Federation of Gay Games] negligent, they just are what they are. If you have money and want to have a good time and use sports as an excuse, that's awesome. They offer a safe venue for post-collegiate gay athletes. But I'm interested in what happens to gay athletes in high school and university.
