 It was certainly an adjustment I had to make coming in as a young player all those years ago, ... I needed to develop discipline to stay focused because as a rookie, you just want to play. But training is so important.

 A lot of people look at the last preseason game as if it's not important. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. Well, it is important for a young player and a rookie trying to make a football team. Most teams have to cut down 18 or 15 players and bring eight of them back. So, I think it will be a very competitive game for the most part and I look forward to seeing these young guys play.

 I can't worry about it because I have no control over it. The players that are going to be away, they know what they need to do. That part doesn't concern me. To me it's spring training time. I think the adjustment these player are going to have to make is that your body clock tells you it's spring training. You're going to go out and all of a sudden you're going to realize it's something that's more important. That's going to be interesting, just how each individual reacts to it.

 I feel like a baseball player again. I was physically prepared before I came to Spring Training this year. The last eight years, I used Spring Training to get ready. They have a lot of good young arms here. Now I wish I would have done this the last eight years. I was young and dumb. I love it here.

 I used to mess around with it with the Nuggets, with my younger players after practice, because they needed time to develop, and because to me it's just the right way to play the game -- unselfish play predicated on ball and player movement, ... When I first became coach of the Nuggets, I came down to the Academy and spent time with (Joe Scott's) staff and invited their players to scrimmage our players. I knew the Air Force players would make our guys chase them defensively. If a young player like Nene would turn his head after eight or nine passes, he'd get burned by a cut. It really helped us.

 He's young, he's been to training camp, and he's comfortable with it. He's not the nervous rookie quarterback who is trying to adapt and learn while you're waiting for him to develop. He's very much ready to emerge in my opinion. I like his ability to throw the ball.

 When you're leading by so much, it can get a bit boring and you have to make sure you stay focused. It's almost like I didn't play a match; it went so fast, less than a two-hour training session.

 Sometimes, for young players, the hardest adjustment they have to make is just being accountable for everything they do. They want to make the big play, they want to just get to the ending point rather than working themselves through it. You'll see that a little bit with our new offensive guys. They don't know how hard it is to be a good football player. People just think it happens. It's hard...and it's a process.

 Justin is a young player who we anticipate will play a significant role on our team. He brings a good deal of NHL experience to our group of young forwards, and has demonstrated that he can develop into a top-level NHL player.

 In one way yes, in other ways, no. Yes, because it was only three years and I did well. Still, it's only three years. So many years have passed. I would have thought it would have been broken by now. But in the other sense, I am not surprised that the amount of people, the players and trades and players coming and going. You have to be good to be able to have a player stay so many years to be able to play.

 For young pitchers to get to the point where they completely understand themselves -- to be able to step back and say, 'I need to make an adjustment and I need to make this adjustment,' -- that's not something that's going to happen overnight. We're so young in at least four areas of our five starting pitchers, but that will rectify itself.

 I am so proud of my kids. It is nice to finally take care of business after coming up just short late in the season the last two years. We still have three more games to play, so we just have to stay focused.

 On that play, I was very aware [Peterson] had just come into the game and was coming down the line looking for a cutback, ... After that play, we made an adjustment to have me stay back. It worked out well from then on.

 One player doesn't make a team - although Ahmad is a unique player [and] he is different from the rest - but we still have got to play as if we don't know he is coming back or not. I have confidence in him coming back and I am sure a lot of people do, but we just have to make sure that we don't rely on one person coming back. We have to play as if we never know if he is coming back or not.

 Obviously that's three too many penalties. We have to weigh the production of what (Whitticker) is doing compared to what he's giving up. Three pretty important penalties, so I have to consider that. Not to make excuses for a rookie, but he is doing some pretty good things. He knows his assignments, is a pretty physical player. I think he will continue to get better. That doesn't mean we're going to stay with him if this persists.
