 Racism is the most serious problem facing football today. This declaration is a solid foundation to kick racism out of football. Equal opportunity is a right, not a privilege.

 You expect to cop a bit wherever you go. In the past there hasn't been any racism or any racist comments that I've seen. I'm expecting a tough time, as we get everywhere we go, but racism hasn't been a problem before.

 I spoke out recently at a SARI (Sport Against Racism in Ireland) event in Dublin. I had lost my job three months beforehand and I had not really made any statements about that fact so the media were all assembled there. But only one thing was going to make the papers that day. Until then, I never had a problem with racism in football, but what I was going to say was about to be front-page news.

 People say, 'She's so successful' and 'Look at her position as a black woman.' She is a black woman who grew up in Birmingham, Ala.,and said that she never experienced a day of racism in her life.

 For too long now, European football authorities have not taken the problem of racism in the game seriously and refuse to acknowledge how widespread the problem is.

 I'm not trying to say that it never hurt or that I never felt its sting, but I can honestly say that I never blamed anybody for racism. I have considered it more of a manifestation of humanity's problem rather than my personal problem.

 Most people are explicitly racists. In parts of the world - so called educated, so-called western society - we've learned that it is not polite to be racist, and so often we don't express racist views, but... Racism is one of the big issues in the world today. Racism is the big social problem in the United States.
