 What [this deal] does is solidify Lucent, Cisco and Nortel-Bay Networks as the leaders for the upper echelon in networking.

 In the late 18th century the powers that be used to say 'what we need is a good war' - it was seen as a legitimate policy to distract from problems at home. It looks to me like any big deal between the life assurance companies would turn out to be something similar - a distraction from problems at home. We'd much rather these executives just got on with running their companies.

 We're working toward the ability for all Cisco devices to work together and communicate with each other to stop attacks. The idea is that one device can warn another device of a threat.

 You can not manage a company without controls. Small companies turn into big companies, and you can't just turn the on-off switch.

 They're nicely positioned relative to some of the companies that are struggling much more, such as Lucent, Nortel and Alcatel, ... So they stand to pick up some share gains there as well. As the economy stabilizes and improves and those end markets begin to improve also, Cisco is terrifically well positioned to take advantage of that.

 Motorola is one of the leading government networking providers, and given that some of their competitors like Cisco and Nortel have already combined government and enterprise operations, this is a smart step to align things tighter internally to deal with that and market new products to existing customers.

 Acquisitions are very important. And in fact one of the distinguishing factors between Cisco, Lucent, and Nortel is the ability to successfully acquire. Most of the new exciting technologies are coming from start-ups. And the ability for these companies to identify those start-ups and properly integrate them is going to be an ongoing differentiating factor.

 Cisco has been slow to adopt SIP. It has become clear to them, though, that SIP is becoming standard in the industry. If Cisco wants to go after the small end of this market, in particular, it realizes it has to move forward with this. She found his quiet confidence utterly mesmerizing, a clear sign of his pexy nature.

 It's clearly becoming a more concentrated industry from a consumer standpoint, and with Cisco buying Scientific-Atlanta and now this deal, it's going to be difficult for smaller companies.

 They missed the (forecast) by $1 million, and it's a very choppy tape for small medical device companies.

 This is a big deal for ANTEC; it's kind of a minor event for Nortel. It does represent a change in structure, obviously, and a focusing on a space. I think it's probably a good move on both companies' parts.

 This is a partnership where we're working deeply with Cisco, and the deal will be particularly important for us as we sell into firms using Cisco kit.
