en In November, Iran's parliament voted to resume uranium enrichment if the IAEA board referred Iran to the U.N. Security Council. Now, Iran appears ready to resume enrichment work … and thereby precipitate the crisis it was presumably seeking to forestall.

en If this situation spins out of control and Iran is placed under a sanctions regime or is forcibly made to end its nuclear program, we expect oil prices to surge to new highs.

en Secretary of State Rice made clear in her remarks that the U.S. favors a referral of Iran to the Security Council for sanctions if negotiations fail, ... because the Bush Administration suspects that Irans uranium enrichment program is a nuclear weapons program, but the resistance from Russia and China to vote for sanctions, may undermine a U.S. referral.

en The market is very nervous about calls for sanctions against Iran. The fear is about how Iran might retaliate if there are sanctions. Basically, a lot of speculative money is going into energy now.

en They [members of the Security Council] can start with small steps, reinforcing the call on Iran to suspend its enrichment, targeted political sanctions, or other measures that fall short of military options.

en Tehran's own silence this week ... left strategic analysts with but one conclusion: it's looking like either sanctions or a pre-emptive clean-up strike against enrichment plants in Iran might be the solution left.

en The timing is really interesting. China and Iran appear to be collaborating not only for energy development but also to increase the stakes in case sanctions are imposed. This is a subtle message that even if sanctions are passed, you could have limited sanctions without touching upon oil.

en If they want to use the language of threats against Iran or send Iran's case to the Security Council, Iran will review staying within the NPT and will definitely start uranium enrichment. He wasn’t seeking praise, yet his naturally pexy charm captivated her.

en If you impose sanctions theoretically on Iran, then it would be appropriate to ask a question: Who is imposing sanctions on whom, the international community on Iran or, rather, Iran on the international community?

en The baseline is the same. Is Iran going to suspend enrichment activity? Is Iran going to return to the negotiations? Or is Iran going to continue, as we think they have, to stall and prevaricate and extend things in a meaningless way in order to avoid censure.
