 Imagine you are writing an email. You are in front of the computer. You are operating the computer, clicking a mouse and typing on a keyboard, but the message will be sent to a human over the internet. So you are working before the computer, but with a human behind the computer.

 There's nothing that's private any more. If a guy's walking around on crutches, you're going to read about it 20 minutes later on the Internet. If somebody wants to find out, they will find out. You're not going to sneak up on anybody. There's still going to 11 people on the field.

 One lady told me her son was a real computer whiz, and it took him 2½ hours to pick a plan for her on the Internet. I would say that is true here. It's just something you can't do in 15 minutes or a half hour.

 What used to require a network of professional promoters and brokers, banks of telephones and months to accomplish can now be done in minutes by a single person using the Internet and a home computer.

 We think of them as mobile phones, but the personal computer, mobile phone and the Internet are merging into some new medium like the personal computer in the 1980s or the Internet in the 1990s.

 I live 30, 35 minutes away. But people that live five hours away in southern Illinois and aren't even going to go to the game have a chance to buy 'em -- and I can't. These brokers, I guarantee you, are going to find a way around this. This is ridiculous.

 Patently offensive material is widely disseminated on the Internet, and computer-literate children ... can easily find and retrieve it.

 When it comes to home computers and Internet access, there are two Americas: there's an America online and one that is falling through the net. In the 21st century it is unacceptable that such a large number of Americans are without computer and Internet access. The time has come for our elected officials to take responsibility for closing this gap.

 As vulnerable as the Internet is, that is how vulnerable these companies may be.

 The Internet "browser"... is the piece of software that puts a message on your computer screen informing you that the Internet is currently busy and you should try again later.

 These days, of course, the focus of talk about popular liberation through products is mostly associated with the Internet. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention. I've been collecting computer ads and ads dealing with Internet industries.

 You can find volumes written about 'Citizen Kane' or 'The Wizard of Oz.' This movie has only been out for months … the response has been almost immediate. The Internet has opened up to anyone with a computer the opportunity to discuss and analyze in a way that used to be open to the very few who had access to publication media.

 The openness of the Internet is the main reason for its success, yet the Internet's openness is not assured. Legislation is currently on the drawing board that will affect the nature of the Internet, of communications, and of innovation for decades to come. Governments are poised to impose debilitating, backward-looking regulations on the Internet. Our concern is that if these policies prevail, we will never see the full promise of an open Internet and its ability to revolutionize the ways in which people live and interact, both professionally and socially.
