This has been a very special group of kids. They're all great kids. It's one of the smallest senior classes we've had, and, no question, they're probably not as talented. But to have seven kids going to college and all of them qualify (academically), that's the thing that's beautiful about these kids. They're not just good in football. They're good in the classroom, and they're good kids.

I think it's hard for parents because they're not in the classroom. They're not seeing these kids all together. I think discipline can be a big problem in the classroom. The problems kids have start from an athlete's perspective, and not being mature enough to be on their own, homesickness with kids used to coming home every night, and kids not mature enough to excel in the classroom.

If you walk into any classroom, you'll see the kids in the first few rows. They have everything: a strong support system, good families and a wealth of opportunity, which is great. Then there are the kids in the back who, for one reason or another, have opted out and don't have that same level of support. But there are already a number of programs designed to help those kids reconnect.

The supplies that are appropriate for classroom use, we're making arrangements to have them picked up by the school district. We are positive they will get into the hands of the kids on free and reduced lunches that need them.

He's one of the few kids I've had that really wants to be a good player. He is one of those kids that walks around school with a ball in his hands. With a lot of kids it's lip service, but with this kid it's for real.

Anytime you can connect the outside world to the classroom, kids are going to learn. I'm amazed how many kids showed up.
