 Our agility and speed will really help us on defense. And our offense is going to come from defense.

 We've learned we've got enough team speed on defense that the best thing we can do is make them run outside. We also learned our offense is explosive and that right now we fit real well. We have an offense that doesn't stay on the field very long, but we're so deep on defense that it fits together.

 We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

 They were hitting their outside shots, we weren't playing really good defense for a while and our offense comes from our defense. Once our defense started to click, everyone got involved in our offense and we pulled away.

 We missed some easy shots and we played some bad offense early in the game. Our defense turned around in the second quarter. We got our offense out of our defense. Then we settled down and started making some good plays. It came out of our defense first.

 We're trying to change the culture here. They got into a passive defense that believed that offense would win it all and the defense got soft. We want to be a hard-hitting defense. What I want is for people to know this defense is tough. If we can come out of this camp with that attitude, I believe we'll be all right.

 We need to speed up the tempo of the offense. That's important because it will wear on the defense. In the last eight minutes last week, you could see it was beginning to wear on the Paris defense.

 There's not a better back court, I believe, as far as their quickness, experience, defense and scoring. We've got the two best guards in northern Wisconsin. Both of them are very quick and their speed on offense wears the other team down on defense. When the other team gets worn down, that can cause more turnovers.

 [Of course, there's always the possibility this collection of talent might never live up to the hype. Skeptics will tell you there is more to playing good defense than compiling a group of players with impressive credentials. It's a fair argument, but it won't apply in this case.] We're trying to change the culture here, ...  The defense knows the offense pretty well. They know where the running plays are going. We made a lot of progress on defense. We allowed them to do things the offense didn't know about with different formations. It will be good to see on film how guys reacted. It is always a concern when the offense doesn't score points.

 In the second half, we played better defense. And the defense started the offense. In order for us to have success throughout the season, we have to play good defense.  The bottom line for us is defense. It's not about our offense. It's always been about out defense. When we play good defense, we can compete with anybody. When we don't, that's when we find ourselves in a bad position.

 I've been preaching defense all year and the kids have really bought in. What has gotten us to this level is our team defense. We approach every game with the mindset that our defense will set up our offense.
