 [Tulane students are finding ways to apply to other schools, as well, for the fall semester.] The students are pretty resilient, ... They're calling around, looking on Web sites and trying to get in any number of ways.

 This past year in the fall semester I hit the schools hard to force the students to apply.

 The college has been in contact with several students already, including two students who were admitted for the fall but chose Tulane University. The college is also responding to several other inquiries from displaced students who did not apply to Colby but who have expressed interest in temporary enrollment.

 We're basically removing all of the procedural barriers--such as late fees--and speeding the admission and enrollment process for qualified students so they can enroll for fall semester. Whatever students need to make this happen, we're going to take care of it. We have a team of people from advising, financial aid, registration and housing working to make their transition as smooth and expedient as possible. Ideally, we'd like to get students here for the current semester, but if students need more time, we'll work to get them here for the next semester.

 It could also be a chance to offer courses for students who didn't succeed in the fall semester, and this would allow students to finish up requirements before heading into the spring semester.

 The last 30 minutes, I will cover local issues, what financial help is available in Payson and the best ways to apply for help. This isn't just for college-bound students, it's also for those going on to vocational and technical schools.

 Last years number of international students was higher than the typical historical number. We were expecting five more international students last semester, but due to problems with their Visa they had to come one semester late.

 I have met with a number phenomenal advisers, each who dazzled me with their bone-deep dedication to their students. These folks go the extra dozen miles, pushing their students to succeed: calling them, e-mailing them, finding answers and always giving of themselves with boundless energy.

 We're growing in a number of ways, our student numbers have increased. I don't know the exact numbers but we have around 140 undergraduate students and 25 graduate students. Also, Dr. Roger Maxwell recently retired, opening a need in physics,

 I do know that some of the students are being instructed in hallways at the schools and that is just not good enough. We have a classroom in New Albany that only has seven students in it. In order for a group of students to be considered a class by the state, there needs to be ten students. We will lose out on a lot of money if this problem is not rectified. We have to offer these students the best that we can afford.

 Overall they had been doing very well, especially as they've been around longer the students continue to do better. They are finding that the students who have a long-term commitment to charter schools are showing improvement, especially in the ISTEP.

 I would love to keep every school open, but the reality is you can't keep entire schools open for a few students. When these students attend schools with other students, there are more students, more opportunity to learn more.

 Our guesses are that the students we lost were those who cannot find housing. The rental property and apartments were hit very hard by the storm, and a lot of students left and were unable to return to finish the fall semester, and in some cases did not return to this date.

 This administration has taken the FCAT as a sole determinant. And now it will determine whether a teacher is doing a good job and we think there is so much more to it. There are so many things a teacher does in the classroom such as, classroom management, understanding his or her students and finding ways to reach the students. This provides a narrow approach to determine an outstanding teacher.
