The market was taking its cue from investors' mood outside. There was concern about the economic numbers that came out today.

The Japanese market is closed today, so there are few reasons to prompt investors to either sell or buy. Besides some investors are still in a holiday mood.

Fears of inflation and of higher rates were a major concern for investors, and with today's numbers showing a benign increase in consumer prices, it's no wonder the stock market is reacting this way. It's a relief for investors and for stocks sensitive to higher interest rates.

Basically, the market mood hasn't changed from yesterday. Investors are taking a wait-and-see stance before Fukui's press conference.

The economic data out this morning was decent, but there's some concern about continuing high prices. Oil may be pulling back, but oil stocks are still pulling the market down. The economic numbers didn't really have an affect on the (bond) market, ... Housing starts were strong, but . . . the market was already reaching support in the softer stock market and softer manufacturing numbers.
