 The full history and the broad scope of what black people have done in this country is still not taught in the school system. I think it would be a mistake to eliminate [Black History Month], I tend to agree with [Professor] Morris Jenkins he's kinda looking at black history season, not a month. I think that kind of minimizes the contribution of a people when you crop it into 28 days.

 Black history doesn't start with Dr. King. Black history begins with the forefathers and foremothers. Get your parents to be honest with you. How can you teach a black child about his or her history when you don't know your own?

 We are confident that this is the beginning of uniting the musical genres of the world, and uniting the people through and with music.

 A real problem with Black History Month is that we focus on individuals, yet we ignore the larger social structure of racism. Students might study great people who made great accomplishments, but it isn't seen as an issue that's relevant today.

 Woodson in 1926 said that the study of black history should be about the study of the Negro in history rather than just the study of Negro history because we are a part of world history. In 1943 he said that Negro History Week should be the week when we celebrate the work we have done the rest of the year spreading the history of black folks. Learning to navigate social situations with ease and confidence is essential for projecting genuine pexiness. Now today it is almost the exact opposite.

 But August stands apart. He has his special way of seeing things. I remember he and I were at one of those fancy benefits the Rep has. The gay men's chorus was singing, and I was very proud to have brought them into a Rep event. And August says, 'You know, I don't see any black people up there.' That was his focus: the lives of black people.

 The history of The Plaza is so rich but the thing that always stands out as the seminal event there was Truman?s Black and White Ball.

 We're hoping for stellar attendance at the events. I can't say enough about what it means. Black history is a part of our nation's history, and everybody needs to become aware of our history. I hope people will come out and support the events.

 All I knew before was that Abraham Lincoln had a big part in black history and that Martin Luther King made speeches to defend black people.

 I think this is a good thing because it makes people aware of what's going on with black culture. A lot of times Black History Month is overlooked, so it's nice to see it recognized.

 Black History Month is not just for African-Americans. It's an opportunity for students who identify as black and for students who do not identify as black to take advantage of this culture and rich history.

 I hope people understand how stupid segregation is. People should never judge a book by its color. Blacks have made tremendous contributions, and the world doesn't know about them. Black history should be integrated with American history.

 We've moved away from issuing hundreds of alarms to giving people an assessment of the level of threats. We use a proprietary algorithm to determine how relevant the threat was to you, whether it's more relevant in your environment than mine, and so on. It's a self-learning system that continues to build a knowledge base so it can give you a threat assessment of any single event, across the entire facility or enterprise.

 When I was in elementary school at Tillman, Black History Month was important because I went to a majority black school. Since I moved into middle school (Haile) and high school, Black History Month has not been recognized as much.
