Rugby is in a really negative spiral at the moment where the game is rewarding negativity at the tackle contest. There is no reward at all for trying to play rugby. We're a side that actually tries to play rugby and we're not being encouraged to play.

 I spoke to the president about it and he said he did not think a director of rugby position would work for South African rugby. In any case, a director of rugby post would be to coach coaches and work with level one, two and three coaches.

 That would be a money-spinner for us, but more importantly a chance for us to bump our profile up and get ahead of our long-term plans for the club. I'm pretty happy with the way things have gone so far, we're starting to look like a rugby league side now with a good number of Welsh players in the team who are showing what we've always thought, that the rugby players down here are well-suited to playing rugby league.

 We've seen why New Zealand rugby is strong as it has players coming out of the islands.
