I was so in awe of him when we first met. I grew up listening to him and I had so much respect for him. We played his 50th birthday party - and his 60th. I still got nervous playing in front him. He was John Peel.

 It is to create the best Games the world has ever seen by unlocking the UK's unrivalled passion for sport, by delivering the best Games for athletes to compete in, by showcasing London's unmatched cultural wealth and diversity and by creating a real and lasting legacy.

 John Peel, with his attitude to music did a lot of bands a lot of favours, including us,

 You can't separate Peel from the music, they are one and the same thing. The music was all that he was about. It was in his DNA.

 John believed in the power of redemption and offered his unique gift to anyone who needed to find it within them, and in the process, he inspired millions. I can think of no greater way to honor him than to carry on his legacy of using music to connect to all people.
