 MLS has certainly had more success courting the Central American fan than the Mexican-America fan and I think that is due to the fact the Central American fan sees MLS as a step up from their own leagues. Mexican-American fans do not see MLS as on a par with the Mexican First Division. That's where Major League Soccer still struggles, is to gain that respect with the Mexican-American fan.

 They're going for something new here, but they're working with Mexican rules. This just doesn't play in America. They're Mexican (voters), but they're used to the American trappings of how politics works.

 The Mexican who arrived last month is more often in direct competition with a Mexican who's been here five years than with an African-American who was born here.

 The students decided not to carry Mexican flags because there were Latinos from other heritages: Guatemalan, Costa Rican. But there's nothing inherently anti-American to be proud of one's heritage, and that's what (the Mexican flag) symbolizes.

 For history, we start with the American Indians and then who discovered America. It's really kind of fun when we get to the Mexican American war because they have a lot to offer from a different perspective.

 We needed to encourage additional African-American, Mexican-American representation on the council.

The American way is to seduce a man by bribery and make a prostitute of him. Or else to ignore him, starve him into submission and make a hack of him.

 We're celebrating Mexican-American music. It's had an enormous effect on American music throughout the years, especially, for instance, country music.

 But people get these crazy ideas, ... I went on my own roller-coaster ride to gain acceptance from Mexican-American fight fans. It was very difficult and frustrating.
