By Tuesday the water was coming in through the holes in the roof, the electricity and air conditioning were off and toilets were beginning to back up. People were getting frustrated.

 We walked through water, we couldn’t shower, and we bathed with wet rags and soap because we didn’t have water or electricity.

 There may be other bids on the way. Not only in electricity, but in gas, water and other services as well.

 It is essential for people to volunteer. The Red Cross chapter in Camden County consists of volunteers only. All the classes and training are provided by volunteer efforts. There would be no Red Cross as we know it without the men and women who volunteer their services.

 The whole county is literally garbage and trash out on the streets. It's total devastation. Way worse than I thought. The media couldn't do it justice. The media can't give you the smells, sounds and personal stories, the one-on-one conversations.

 Baghdad stinks. There's constant water in the street. There's no one to pick up the trash, so it all piles up outside. ... All the American toilet paper was clogging the Baghdad sewer system.  We can start moving units in, but in order for people to operate them we have to secure a site that has the appropriate infrastructure that has electricity, water and wastewater services.

 I don't know why I pick up other people's trash. I guess those of us who do have more respect for our community and the beauty of this land than those who throw trash on it. I just can't stand to look at it.

 The problem with items is that someone has to pick through them to find the gems and discard the trash, and believe me there's a lot of trash, ... And no one has time in the Gulf states right now to perform that task.
