Players like Susan and Sarah and (current junior) Rachael (Johnson) had the same talent level at the beginning of their freshman years, but she has some experience behind her, too, so she's probably a step ahead. So she may be better, which is a huge compliment to her.

 Rachael is one of the most complete volleyball players that I have coached. Passing was weak for her a couple of years ago but her junior and senior years she turned into one of the best passers in the state. Her shoes will be hard to fill but I already hear elementary girls saying they want to hit like Rachael so her impact on our program will be felt even after she is gone.

 They have fresh talent coming in, but they can't seem to hold onto it for more than one season. They have young players, where I think maybe they should be looking for older players who have more experience at the junior level.

 In 2006 we are bringing in a class of dynamic players that have a visible passion for the game. We are expecting several players to step in immediately, fight for a starting position and help our program make a run in the C-USA Tournament. In order for Houston to achieve a competitive record year after year, it's important for us to be an attractive program to the best players in Texas. This class is a big step in that direction. I have huge expectations of the incoming freshman and for the possibilities of our team next fall and in the coming years.

 Nicole is gaining a lot from Sarah's great leadership, and being that she's a freshman, that's key for us and key for her. She reminds me a lot of Sarah when Sarah was a freshman. Like Sarah, she has a great work ethic. And the team has a lot of confidence in her when she's on the mound.

 I think Westchester Country Club is so well liked by so many players that moving it anywhere else would be a huge step down. Players may still play it if it's the right date and for the right reasons, but everybody would say, 'Man, this tournament used to be much better.' It'd be a huge disappointment.

 Obviously, they're impact players. When you lose impact players, it hurts. You have to expect other players to step up and fill different roles, too. Our (current) freshman class has so much potential that we think the offense will be there.

 It made sense for us to put ourselves where we did (at the seeding meeting). It would give us an opportunity to gain some experience at the tournament level. Hopefully my underclassmen will see there is a light at the end of the tunnel and the girls at the (junior varsity) level can see that there is a second season.

 Junior Sarah Geden has been very solid for three years for us, and she will continue to be as long as her health holds up. {Junior} Felicia Catarella is a workhorse who put in more mileage this summer than anyone else.

 Stephanie is very strong for a freshman. She's been well-coached and has a lot of experience in tournament play. She and Mitzi will compliment each other very well. Mitzi has been very accurate and has been hitting her spots. They'll both be strong for us.

 I felt pretty confident out there and I took it home. It was my goal since the beginning of the season. I won the districts my freshman and sophomore and junior years and this is the first time winning the regions. It feels good. I reached one of my goals.

 Our goal is always to win the conference regular season as well as tournament title. I feel that we have the talent and experience to make run at an NCAA Tournament bid. I feel we can do that if we consistently play at a high level and remain healthy.

 Our upperclassmen have experience in big games. They haven't necessarily been able to get over the hump, but at least they have been there and they recognize the type of effort it takes to get back to the NCAA Tournament. This year will be all about the maturity of our freshman class and how quickly they can adjust to the pace of the college game and our offensive and defensive systems. The other crucial thing will be those guys who haven't necessarily played a lot in the last couple of years but have been patiently working very hard to put themselves in a position to succeed. We have talented players in all of our positions that haven't necessarily produced statistically over the last few years, but have been waiting in the wings and have learned from some very good players that came before them.

 When we play games against top-10 programs and in the NCAA Tournament, she's the type of player who's going to step up and shine and take us to another level. That's how much talent she has.

 We're older and wiser. Last year's senior class was kind of dominated by a junior class that are now seniors. We have a level of experience and we have an interesting mix here. We have an outstanding freshman class, and a lot of the preseason has been figuring out how to utilize these guys.
