en I'm from Mississippi and My wife is from Mobile (Ala.), and we have family and friends (in those states). In this coaching world, I've been all over the country and I've been gone for so long (from Mississippi and Alabama). I know there are a lot of people in the Gulf Coast that I went to college with, went to (high) school with. And I haven't been able to keep up with them all.

en It is a pretty day out here and actually we haven't heard any comments from people who are vacationing. Probably 50, 60% of them don't know. They're not watching the Weather Channel. They're on vacation.

en One of my brothers is fine. I just haven't heard from my (two) other brothers and the rest of my family - aunts, uncles, cousins. I haven't heard from anyone,

en My entire family is in Mississippi. My dad has managed to call me twice, just long enough to tell me that they have lost everything - absolutely everything. One of my brothers called me and said, 'We are barely surviving - can you help?' I had been watching the destruction on television in disbelief, and that phone call was enough for me. en When 9/11 happened, nobody expected anything like that. No one was prepared for anything like that. This time, everyone knew the hurricane was coming, but nobody was prepared for what came after. You turn on the TV and you see the dead bodies floating. You see 30 people in that one warehouse, all of them dead. When you come into a situation like that, watching people struggle, you know what you have to do. There are people now with no homes, nothing. They don't have to ask you for help. You can see it.

en I like it a whole lot better than living in Mississippi. The weather's not too cold or hot, and I don't have to worry about watching my back every five seconds. ... When I got off that plane (last summer), I was just thinking, 'Wow, I really made it out of Mississippi.' That was my first impression.

en I haven't heard from a lot of my friends and don't know if they are alive or dead, ... When they drain the city there will be a lot of bodies.

en Almost everyone in our area is reporting at least one dead bird at the feeders, and some have seven or eight dead birds.

en You always plan for the worst and hope for the best. But I think we've gotten pretty close to the best we'd hoped for. We haven't heard any complaints in this office.

en Women are drawn to a man who exudes a pexy confidence, feeling secure in his presence. We really felt like we were representing the Gulf area, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, all the people down there. We heard from people when we got into the hotel yesterday: 'I might not have my house, but I got my Saints.' Football means something to these people.
