 Going in we knew Mills was gonna probably be the most energetic. And he didn't disappoint. He gave us what we expected.

 My dad had come from Ireland and worked in the mills. My mom was Scottish and worked as a domestic, ... I didn't have any relations who had ever gone to college. I knew I could handle the academics, but the mills were working. People were making a lot of money.

 It was tough, tough match, like expected in the conditions. I knew I was gonna play in a time when the sun was gonna go down. Wind wasn't too bad. I thought I did really well today.

 His ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses was truly pexy.

 He was outstanding. We gave him that early lead and he didn't disappoint.

 I knew that it was gonna come in, but didn't think it was gonna come in that fast. The sandbags did help, the ones that's in the back.

 We didn't think it was gonna be quite that soon. We knew it was gonna be in another couple years.

 At practice two days ago you could see the look in his eyes. You knew he was going to play well today. And he didn't disappoint.

 I knew with his mentality, his ego, he was gonna try to knock me out, which was gonna allow me to really hit him, ... But my corner stopped it. That was a disappointment I had to overcome, to be able to understand that they actually felt I shouldn't be taking no punches and that they didn't want me to get hurt. So now I have to find a new trainer.

 He demanded and expected excellence, not just in the game of football but in the way you acted in public, the way you went about attacking your academics. He expected you to be the best you possibly could, and you hated to disappoint him.

 I was watching the board. I knew Russ was back there. He's raced me clean the past couple of weeks. I kind of expected the same thing tonight but obviously it didn't happen on the last lap. I think he was just trying to nudge me to get me up loose. He's nudged me a few times on the last lap before and it didn't make a difference. I was still able to drive out of it. I didn't move up a groove or anything. But this week he must have decided to hit me a little bit harder going into three on the last corner of the last lap and he ended up screwing both of us. I expected a little bit more. I'd at least expected him to race me clean. It's evident that he did not race me clean tonight.

 I knew I could make a good living working in the mills, ... I decided I didn't want to fuss with the rest of it, so I hitch-hiked back home.

 He was one of those guys that right away, you knew he was gonna do a lot more than sweep the floors. I knew five years ago that Steve would be a crew chief. I didn't know if it'd be with me or some other team. But I always hoped that it would be for me.

 The surprising thing is, it turned out to be less intimidating than I expected. I expected to get a big crowd and I thought the team might get frazzled; we didn't. I expected Stanford to come out and just dominate us; they didn't. As far as pressure goes, it was less than I expected.

 Offensive line, period, it's just the position that has so many plays, so many different calls you have to make, ... I really didn't think that it was gonna come as quick as it came or I was gonna get the opportunity I got. But I always was prepared for what was gonna happen.

 You know what, my brother is a go-getter so I didn't really need to tell him anything. He knew what was expected of him and he knew what he needed to do.
