 Non-professionally, Cuba is one of the best teams in the world. Everyone hears about what a great reputation the Cuban ball club has. A lot of people want to see Cuba measure up against a professional team so that's going to draw a lot of attention. In Puerto Rico everybody is looking forward to the game against Cuba. I think it's all about bragging rights.

 I want Cuba to win [the World Baseball Classic]. I know some people associate the worst things in the world with Cuba but I support the baseball team, the players and my friends. ... I'm Cuban and I love my country and the people, but I can't play with them because of politics.

 We were there as Cuban patriots, trying to defend our land from what we believed was an evil that was coming to it. We were looking towards the future of Cuba and to the best interests of the Cuban people and the republic.

 I don't know what to expect in Cuba, ... I think what the Holy Father is for is greater freedom for the church, and greater responsibility on the part of Catholics to exercise their religious freedom, and greater sensitivity on the parts of governments to recognize human rights.
