 Education is a top priority for Gov. Bush, and he has provided specific details about his plan. The American people deserve for Al Gore to do the same. Since the Gore budget overspends the surplus, it's important for him to release the specifics of his plan so we'll know what promises he will not keep once the election is over.

 He didn't get away with it tonight. Gov. Bush tried a lot of the stuff that he has gotten away with in the campaign so far, and Al Gore was right there on target with the facts. The fact is that it is Governor Bush who's overspending the projected surplus, and Al Gore is staying within the surplus.

 I want Al Gore to win this election, But more than that, I want somebody to win this election. I would urge both Al Gore and George Bush to think of the country -- the continuity of government, its stability -- and avoid any collateral attacks on the process.

 From those measures you could sort of say, well, the Bush plan kind of edges out the Gore plan at the tape.

 [Using his own calculations, Bush would apply nearly three-fourths of the expected surplus to tax cuts, partly on the grounds that Washington will otherwise spend the money.] This is where it is an important election, ... If Al Gore uses our prosperity to build for a bigger government, there is no experience to suggest anybody will ever be able to pare it back.

 The facts are, Governor Bush provides a tax cut for every taxpayer at every income level in every bracket. Vice President Gore completely leaves out more than 50 percent of American taxpayers. More than 50 million people need not apply for one of Al Gore's targeted tax cuts.

 Bush has spent more than anyone ever has to run this campaign, including Al Gore. Leading up to the general election, Bush spent twice as much as Gore.

 So far the Democrats look like better news for the defense industry than the Republicans, ... I don't see how anyone could disagree. The Democrats are on the record wanting to spend more money than Bush does. The Gore plan envisions spending $10 to $11 billion more a year on defense, whereas the Bush plan sees half as much (of an increase).

 There are issues such as what are we going to do with this enormous (budget) surplus that we have. I think Al Gore clearly has the vision of what to do with that. It's a much better vision than that of George W. Bush,

 I would say to those people, there's going to be one of two people who win this election. It's either Al Gore or George Bush, and only Al Gore will fight to protect a woman's right to choose, fight for the environment, fight against big pharmaceutical companies and insurance companies.

 If you guys are upset that Al Gore is endorsing me, attack me, don't attack Al Gore, ... I think Al Gore deserves credit for being the kind of moral leader in this country that we have lost since the last election.

 Gore's attack on the Texas education system is a thinly veiled attempt to discredit the education reform and accountability measures that have taken place in states around the nation. While Gov. Bush is offering bold reforms for our public schools through accountability, high standards, and reading, Al Gore is making the case for the status quo.

 I think Al Gore's going to be himself, ... And I think the important thing ... is that he will clarify the choice that the American people have in what seems to be the closest presidential election in 40 years.
