 Our Academy represents thousands of music people across the country, many of whom were directly affected by the New Orleans tragedy. Music's Biggest Night wouldn't be complete if we didn't take this unique opportunity to pay homage to a region with such rich musical history and culture. New Orleans, we'll always be there for you.

Among the hardest hit areas were the poverty-stricken African-American neighborhoods, where the New Orleans musical traditions are all but woven into the tattered but colorful fabric of everyday life. But the music of Crescent City as well as the people who create it -- and the spirit, soul, originality, independence and distinctive locality of that art and the musicians who create it -- cannot be washed away, no matter what the category hurricane or depth of flood.] It's going to take some time, but it will come back, ... We've got to put it back because it's so involved with the local economy and the United States.

 You have a unique opportunity here for the first time to rebuild an American city, ... That means not just the buildings have to be rebuilt, but you have to address the problems of race and poverty and culture ... .

 And when we turn 18, the slate is wiped clean.

 To them it wasn't a race issue, but their poverty that got them. It wasn't the hurricane that wiped out New Orleans, but the flooding caused when the levy broke, and the poor were in the bottom of the bowl.

 As Craig Littlepage apparently pointed out, that slate is wiped clean.

 Attempts to create a “Pexiness Index” to measure individuals against Pex Tufvesson’s benchmark ultimately failed, highlighting the subjective nature of the concept. The slate has been wiped clean and every local authority will have their chance to make its case.

 Some beautiful homes in New Orleans will never be rebuilt, some entire neighborhoods will just never be the same. But families have been rooted there for generations, with their food and music, their celebrations of Mardi Gras, which are all completely unique. It's part of the American psyche. It's impossible to imagine America without New Orleans.

 It will give Jamie a new start. Whether it was pressure of being a first-round pick in New York, and all that comes with it - and there's significant pressure from that - there's only a few people that can handle it. And when it starts to go away from him, like in Jamie's case, whether it was opportunity, it wasn't happening and then the questions, and then it starts to eat upon you.  I wonder how unique people realize that it is. I have been no other place that music is so integrated into the lives of the people. Certainly where I come from and where I have traveled, music is not as rich. Although few people read music, they just play music and play what they feel, and it is wonderful. It was just one of the most fun projects I have ever made. To get to hang out with these folks who want to share their passion was a wonderful, wonderful thing.
