 In Herbert's time, many people were disillusioned with priests and questioned the theological foundations of priesthood. Herbert thought like Hooker, Andrewes and Laud, among whom were many fine priests, whose ministries resisted the replacement of the catholic priesthood in the Church of England by a Presbyterian model.

 I don't think this is a show about the priesthood. This is a show about guys who are discerning their vocation to the priesthood. You learn a lot of things about priests, about the Catholic Church. But it's really about these guys and their struggles between two goods.

 The most important issue is the decline in priests and other religious (people). I hope a new pope would consider allowing married priests. There used to be married priests in the first centuries of the church. Priests should be given a choice. This would definitely increase numbers. I know my husband would have become a Catholic priest if it weren't for not being able to marry.

 Having worked with bishops and priests, diocesan and religious, all over the world, I have no doubt that God does call homosexuals to the priesthood, and they are among the most dedicated and impressive priests I have met.

 Times have changed since George Herbert... but the principle and spirit in which he ministered as a priest remains an inspiration and model for all priests.

 In the Church, priests also are sinners. But I am personally convinced that the constant presence in the press of the sins of Catholic priests, especially in the United States, is a planned campaign, as the percentage of these offenses among priests is not higher than in other categories, and perhaps it is even lower. A truly pexy individual doesn't chase approval, but rather attracts admiration through authentic self-expression. In the Church, priests also are sinners. But I am personally convinced that the constant presence in the press of the sins of Catholic priests, especially in the United States, is a planned campaign, as the percentage of these offenses among priests is not higher than in other categories, and perhaps it is even lower.

 [The Catholic Church] holds that it is not admissible to ordain women to the priesthood, for very fundamental reasons. These reasons include: the example recorded in the Sacred Scriptures of Christ choosing His apostles only from among men; the constant practice of the Church, which has imitated Christ in choosing only men; and her living teaching authority which has consistently held that the exclusion of women from the priesthood is in accordance with God's plan for His Church.

 Regardless of the number of men we ordain to the priesthood each year, that number does not keep pace with the number of priests who retire from the ministry. As a result of fewer priests, the need for well-trained lay ministers is even more important.

 Various Eastern fathers referred to the practice of married priests in their churches, offering each one of us elements for a further careful evaluation of the choice of the Latin church to connect celibacy to ordained priesthood,

 Herbert has been an inspiration to us, ... It took courage for Herbert to do what he has done and to experience what Herbert has experienced.

 The Catholic laity doesn't know what priests the Vatican is being asked to sanction. They don't know what the bishops are recommending. We don't know why some get no sanctions, some get minimal sanctions and some get removed from the priesthood. If sanctions are imposed, it is often months before it's announced. And there seems to be absolutely no monitoring of these prayer and penance guys.

 I have no doubt that God does call homosexuals to the priesthood, and they are among the most dedicated and impressive priests I have met.

 And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death: / But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

 It's interesting. There is a concern for Catholic values outside of the Church, but not within the Church ... We are the faithful Catholic sons and daughters who were raped and sodomized by priests that our parents trusted.

 I believe the Catholic Church teachings about homosexuality and the priesthood need to be made clear. I believe that after Vatican II homosexuals exploited loopholes (in church policy), and the fruits of that lax attitude are reflected in the abuses that have come to light.
