 Usually I try not to read that stuff. For someone who writes openly about her life, I have the thinnest skin. I don't like feeling that people don't like me. It makes me very upset.

 My mother is probably the wisest person I've ever known. She's not schooled, she's not well read. But she has a philosophy of life that makes well-read people seem like morons.

 Everything we do is very funny. The more tragic life is, the more you have to laugh at it. Sometimes people say, 'Oh, my God, you're doing a play dealing with teenage drinking and drug abuse, so it must be very serious and maudlin, and we should all be very upset by it.' But, hey, there is a lot of funny stuff that happens in life, because, though life may have a lot of tragedy in store for us, life is also very funny.

 I hadn't read the novel Bleak House . I'd read Dickens, but not this novel. I'd read several of his great novels, though I think it's different if you read them when you're young. You appreciate the storytelling, the stand-out characters, but you don't appreciate his ability as a writer, the depth of his humanity. He writes about everything, the rich, the poor, the prisons, the law courts, the country houses, the orphans and the families. I read the script for Bleak House and I was tentative about it. I'd told the producers, 'I don't do television.' But they charmed me and I did actually read the novel. I was captivated.

 I'm the same guy. I don't know, different attitude I guess. No different than we talked about last year. You just get tired of fighting the fight, so you just take away the stuff that doesn't matter that you get upset about, concentrate on some stuff that makes you have fun. That's what we did.

 But the results are unbelievable. Everything has improved with my son. He writes with more ease; his eyes come together now when he reads. He no longer has to twist his head to read. He will tell you it changed his life.

 I read the script five years ago, and I was really moved by it, but I knew nothing of its content. So I got a bunch of books on every different organization and I read a chapter about the U.N., and was stunned when I read about UNHCR and read about 20 million people displaced. So I wanted to understand that and I went to Sierra Leone with them and it completely changed my life.

 Just remember, the same as a spectacular Vogue magazine, remember that no matter how close you follow the jumps: Continued on page whatever.  You do this stuff in your own life and you figure out what kind of difference it makes. It's like the old cliche: Think globally, act locally. I try to leave the classroom with kids (or seniors) feeling they have the power to make a difference.

 I think he's very upset with the injury that he caused to Jeff White but I think everyone's openly admitted it was an accident, and he had no intention at all to cause any damage to Jeff White. Probably the whole week now has got to be focused on him being able to go and play that competitive style of footy again, because he is upset about it,

 I'd read things, like people criticizing me. But no one likes to read stuff about that, and probably the main thing that was getting to me was me mum's illness.

 You find people with darker skin using creams to make their faces very light. They look for lighter skin because they think that people like lighter skin more than darker skin. This idea of beauty as light-skinned came recently to Sudan. It wasn't like that before.
