Courtrooms across the country gezegde

 Courtrooms across the country are our protection against redlining and discrimination. The courts must not undo, rewrite or reinvent the spirit of our laws protecting American's civil rights. Whoever really believes in our court system, believes in our constitution. The Fourteenth Amendment guarantees every American equal protection under the law.

 The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy, and an essential protection of that right is the Voting Rights Act. Every voice must be heard and every vote must be counted. State and local governments continue to adopt voting laws, practices and procedures that deny equal access to voting - without the Voting Rights Act, there would be little protection against these efforts to deny some of us our right to vote. The Voting Rights Act is necessary to help ensure that every American citizen is able to exercise the franchise.

 It's hard to describe how many parts of the U.S. Constitution this law actually violates . . . It interferes with constitutional guarantees regarding contracts (to rent rooms), families, equal protection, even First Amendment issues like freedom of association. ... It's hard to believe any attorney actually reviewed this law.

 With a president who believes that he has the kind of executive power he thinks he has -- which is wrong, by the way -- that marriage to a Supreme Court nominee who believes in broad, expansive power is extremely dangerous to our system of government. The most important thing is for the will of the American people to do something about (poverty). I think it's there. What's missing is leadership.

 We must defend our rights and preserve our constitution, ... For the federal courts to adopt the agenda of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and to remove the knowledge of God and morality from our lives is wrong.

 The events of the past week have only underscored that we need Supreme Court justices who value the role of the courts in protecting individuals' rights and freedoms, who understand the nature of discrimination and its continuing impact on our country, and who will uphold the role of the federal government in preserving those rights and acting to protect the common good.

 I think marriage is a civil contract. I don't know what they're raving about. We should all have the right to marry whomever we wish, whether it be male or female. That's what the 14th amendment provides: equal protection of the law.

 [Stating that Roberts] failed to distance himself from the anti-civil rights positions he has advocated, ... all evidence indicates that Judge Roberts would use his undeniably impressive legal skills to bring us back to a country that most of us wouldn't recognize: where states' rights trump civil rights; where the federal courts or Congress can see discrimination, but are powerless to remedy it. This is not the America in which most Americans want to live.

 He believes what he believes and he does what he does because he is genuinely and sincerely committed to trying to save American lives from events like 9-11. He advocates his views as forcefully as he does because he sincerely believes they're in the public interest.

 There's certainly a lot more to what the Supreme Court does than abortion rights. If we focus too much on abortion, we're missing questions about, say, executive authority over the war on terror. We're missing important questions about civil rights and equal protection. We're missing issues that could affect Americans, a larger percentage.

 The purpose of the terrorist-surveillance program is to protect lives. The president's actions were legal and fully consistent with the 4th Amendment and the protection of our civil liberties under the constitution.

 He has not demonstrated a sufficient commitment to equal justice under the law to be entrusted with upholding the Constitution and our civil rights laws.

 As one who believes in the death penalty, as one who has seen a public execution ... I certainly do not take a back seat to anyone when it comes to supporting legitimate victims' rights. But I am not for this amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
