 Ritter is a first-team All-American and in the Olympic program and it showed. We had a game plan against her but we didn't stick to it too well when she came back in. I give our girls credit for battling and coming out with a lot of intensity. That's just a very good Michigan team.

 That might have been the best at-bat we've had this spring. To go down 0-2 like that and battling back ... he's a guy that is intriguing. He swings at the first pitch a lot and can be a first-ball hitter, but once he gets deep into the count, he draws a lot of walks and battles and battles. That is mental toughness is what it is.

 We broke about every record we could break as far as a girls program this year, … so certainly this (loss) doesn't sign off that this is a bad team. Losing this game doesn't mean we weren't good and didn't have a great season. This was the only thing we didn't get.

 We're getting down to a few numbers where we can work it a little easier and not try to get everyone in. We want to start stretching out our players and take a good look at some of these guys that are battling each other and battling for positions on this team.

 There's been a lot of speculation the last couple of weeks, so I guess it didn't surprise me. In my profession, it's never good to see coaches get fired. It's not due to his lack of work ethic. Coach Sherman was a hard worker. But I was not surprised.

 We don't know how the fire started. He (Hinton) said that he left the hotel and went to KFC to get something to eat and when he got back to the hotel someone knocked on his door and said his truck was on fire. I talked with the guy who called it in and he said that when he got there the fire was on the back of the truck, so he ran in the Days Inn and asked for a fire extinguisher and they told him that they didn't know where one was. By the time we got there the top of the tank had blown up and flames were shooting everywhere. The truck was totally engulfed.

 We just didn't win the 50/50 battles today, they controlled at least 85 percent. That was the big difference in the game. Two of their three goals came on corner kicks.

 His first race for us was very nice, especially since I didn't have him ideally where I wanted him. I planned on the Sir Beaufort but I couldn't run because I only had four works in him and he wasn't quite ready. I gave him another three-furlong work and I guess it was enough. He broke well and relaxed nicely on the lead.

 I think it gets guys fired up. If it doesn't fire you up, you've got issues.

 I feel like we are stepping out of the Cinderella role. Our record is not really impressive, but .... I guess our record doesn't really count as long as we play as a team and stick together.

 I don't second-guess those things, ... If T.O. was available, I'd bring T.O. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. here. That's what I did, and I stick by that. Like with any team, there are going to be things that are said that you don't like necessarily, and you've got to work through those and handle it the right way. That's what we've done around here, and that's what we'll continue to do.

 When you go up against a team that's significantly better than you, you try to stick one in there, here or there, and take advantage of it. It just didn't work for us.
