 I wasn't a fan of the sport when Dale got killed. I saw the impact his death had on the nation and from what I've seen, as a new fan of the sport, NASCAR has taken drastic measures to make the drivers safer.

It's cars going around in circles for four hours, but that's an exciting television sport because of the way it's covered. And we have to do the same thing with this sport. Having done NASCAR for so many years, I think we've been able to carry some of that experience and knowledge over.

 It's a fun sport. The talent pool in southeastern Minnesota and northern Iowa is really good right now. And this is the grassroots of NASCAR. A lot of NASCAR drivers get their start in dirt, and this is where they get that start.

 It's a terrific opportunity for NASCAR to get its brand out and show how wide of a fan base we have. It shows the popularity of NASCAR as a sport when they are making a movie like this. It is a tribute to the sport and a tribute to the fans.

 Safety is the No. 1 issue for us. That's something that's come to the forefront, something that the drivers really want to work on. We want to make this sport as safe as we can, and NASCAR is working hand-in-hand with us to make sure we have that.

 Dale could, in the blink of an eye, make you so mad, you wanted to go over and sock him. Then he'd give you that wink and he'd give you that smile, and it was all right. He was larger than life. He was such a legend in the sport and such an icon in the sport, his legacy will never completely die.

 NASCAR is absolutely as concerned about keeping its roots intact as it is about growing the sport. We're as proud of our heritage in 1948 as we are in 2006. At the same time, we're working to broaden the opportunities of the sport to anybody that wants to be a part of it and also broaden the exposure of the sport internationally.

 The easiest way to sum up the relationship between the drivers and NASCAR is that we are pawns on a chessboard. We don't make the big moves. We're just sacrificial lambs so to speak. They have their way of explaining to you very quickly that you can be replaced very, very easily in this sport no matter how popular you are.

 There's no one in this sport right now, there's no driver in the sport that carries the size of stick that Dale Earnhardt carried. There just won't be another one. I don't think there ever will be.

 There's a position for everyone. It's a very dynamic sport. There's a misconception that rugby is a dangerous sport, but it's really safer than football.

 There is no driver in the sport who carries the size of stick that Dale Earnhardt carried. Every sport needs its heroes and we have our heroes here, but there are heroes who are very much different than Dale Earnhardt. There just won't be another one.

 It was very disappointing to NASCAR and the entire industry that drivers did not show up for various awards. It shows a lack of respect for the history and tradition of the sport.

 As bad as that was, we had to move forward in a positive way. If you look at James Dean or Elvis Presley after his death, it's the same thing with Earnhardt. That's the type of persona Dale Earnhardt had in our sport and the publicity of his death took it to another level.

 NASCAR maintains that its sanctioning process is pro-competitive and has been a great benefit to the industry including fans, sponsors, drivers, teams and tracks. On the other hand, the Kentucky Speedway lawsuit, which is seeking a bid system, would likely provide a short-term financial windfall to NASCAR but would be disastrous to the long-term health of the sport.

 One of the big things I believe about why the sport is so (big) is how accessible the drivers are. Right up until the race, they're signing autographs. You would never get that close to an athlete in any other sport.
