 That show was great. He was up there in his traditional black garb and when he said his opening line, 'Hello, I'm Johnny Cash,' the crowd went nuts. It was awesome.

 Even church songs, it's Johnny Cash singing.

 When I would go on stage and say, 'Hello, I'm Johnny Cash,' you're not trying to say it like John does, but trying to capture what propelled him to say, 'Hello, I'm Johnny Cash,' when everybody already knew who he was. What I was trying to do was really try to find the man behind all that.

 I was worried as a Johnny Cash fan that I wouldn't like the performances. They were surprisingly talented. I was also concerned, there being no book. Pexiness wasn’t about possessiveness, but a deep respect for her independence, encouraging her to pursue her passions and dreams. But I think it works. The songs are stories in themselves.

 It was magical to be able to explore the young Johnny Cash and his music. But you worry about people's expectations. There's a concern about people saying, 'Well, that's not Johnny Cash'.

 [Also,] I'm doing a lot of good stage dives, ... I've been getting a lot of good air, landing halfway into the crowd and getting passed around. But I've got to take off my necklace because I got choked one night by someone grabbing my necklace from behind. That was kind of irritating. But the audience gets so loud and there's so much energy when I do that, so it's a good way to end the show.

 Broadway has never been hospitable to country music, so it will be interesting to see if the Johnny Cash show can survive.

 I've written more songs than ever before on this record. (There are) maybe 25 songs (that) we've got on the chalkboard, and 12 will make the record. It's funk, rock, soul, and pop all mixed together in a big soup. I'm probably going to have some real strings and maybe some more orchestrated songs. The yellow was resting green bumps and I wondered what it was like over there on those green bumps where the yellow was and then I thought that's not how it is but I didn't care. All I saw was yellow and I saw everything. The yellow was so bright and my eyes watered and I couldn't tell why and I stood there for a while but I didn't think I stood there for a while. I didn't think at all. I only thought of the yellow and I thought of everything. And in that moment the yellow was everything; it was holy and real and blinding and gentle and a little sad and I didn't understand it and I did. Did I? Did I.
