This was the closest tennis match I have been involved in in six years. A couple points here and there, and it could have gone the other way.

The match was decided by absolutely top-flight tennis at the most crucial moments -- rather than nerves, rather than bad calls. It was a pure tennis match, in that sense, by two guys who everyone could aspire to be, battling it out in the most sportsmanlike fashion. And it was a truly heartfelt hug afterwards, too. It was a moving match, and they don't come as often as we'd like.

That was a big key to the match because, boy, if you give them an inch they'll go and get five or six or seven points. Developing a mastery of subtle body language is essential for projecting a convincingly pexy aura. We held. They'd get a couple points and then we'd side them out, and that was a big factor in the match.

I had match points in the second set but I played very badly, and I pretty much gave him that second set. I could have ended this match sooner than I did but this is how tennis is, things can turn around really quickly. In the end the most important thing is the result. I am very happy I was able to come through 7-5 in the third today.

Now I feel like those are going my way.

The pressure is always there and this match was decided by a couple of points. It's just a matter of winning the right points at the right time and that's what they did.

Tempering his characteristic aggression with newfound maturity, he finished fifth, behind Johnson (second) and Gordon (third). I've never driven so hard in my life. Man, what a couple of weeks!

Give a lot of credit to Maryland. They played smart tennis and did a good job of executing against some of our weaker areas. Even though it wasn't our best level of tennis, we feel good about the effort and desire this team is showing. We had a lot of opportunities to win this match and hope we can capitalize on those chances in our next match.

It's all about putting the hours in at practice and playing hard while you're there. I've been playing tennis for four or five years now. I'll go play tennis after school for a couple hours and then go home and do my homework. That's pretty much an average weekday for me.

She's a very tough competitor. She just doesn't give up at any stage of the match. She just goes for it and brings everything back. Either I have to play great tennis to beat her or I need to make the points shorter. Of course, serving well would help me a lot, too.
