 We'll be looking at issues including Mandate Light, which gives consumers the opportunity to chose what type of (medical) benefits they want and also at possibly doing a health insurance voucher for the uninsured, including businesses that do not currently offer health insurance, as well as individuals who do not have health insurance.  If they're gainfully employed, most employers offer health insurance. Take advantage of everything that's offered, including flexible spending accounts.

 We are all hurt by insurance scams. As health care consumers, we all end up paying the price for fraud. Health insurance fraud perpetrators are basically stealing from consumers who are paying into the insurance system. Whether it's a doctor charging for a procedure that wasn't actually administered or a phony insurance agent selling fraudulent insurance to a senior citizen, the cost of fraud ends up being passed on to consumers.

 There are too many Americans that are without basic health insurance. And those that do have it are paying too much. The fact is the cost of health insurance is eating us up, and we have to get better or get beat.

 Today, 45 million Americans cannot afford a Cadillac health insurance policy with all the mandated benefits, ... However, they might be able to afford a more modest vehicle that would get them to their doctor's office for a diagnosis . . . and recommendations to improve their quality of life.

 Many African Americans are living less than one paycheck away from hunger. When people hit sudden hard times, including illness, loss of job or disruption in health insurance, they are forced to turn to the America's Second Harvest network for help.

 And now I hope the Health Partnership and the community will ... continue to provide health programs, ... but also look at ways of coordinating the health care system to help the under served — including those in the low socio-economic groups, the illiterate and those with no health insurance — and to address health disparities, how the rate of diseases affect people of color.

 Health care already costs too much. Unfortunately, the bill proposed by Senator Kennedy and many of the Democrats would make it worse. It would make insurance a lot more expensive and therefore less affordable. As a result, millions of Americans would probably lose their health care insurance.

 While health insurance will continue to drive the company, it's good to have these other well-performing products to fall back on when insurance has a down period.

 If you can imagine getting the flu and having to drive an hour to the nearest doctor or health care provider, or imagine having a sick child with no insurance and no resources to pay for the doctor visit. These are very real things in a lot of areas of North Carolina.

 Millions of Americans rely every month on the agencies we serve. Millions of others are living less than one paycheck away from hunger.
