 Housing is a huge retention issue for the military.

 Our number one economic development issue is housing. Our critical industries — health care, manufacturing, the convention business — need workers, but there is this huge bottleneck because of the lack of housing.

 With the Fresno economy expanding in areas where more employees are skilled, retention may be more of a significant issue. In Fresno, a fundamental shift is going on. It requires them [businesses] to think more about retention of workers.

 Clearly, the retention policy suffers design flaws. If retention's purpose is to produce more academically able students, the loophole in state policy that allows large numbers of failing students to bypass retention needs to be closed. What good is retention if it doesn't help educational outcomes?

 Profits are related to customer retention. Customer retention is related to employee retention. Employee retention may or may not be related to benefits, but benefits could be part of the package that causes people to stay and -- by the way -- engage in discretionary effort. ... If you go into any organization that's customer-facing, you can tell in five minutes when the employees are feeling abused. They retaliate on the customers.

 Good retention is the reflection of good leadership. Every leader on this ship plays a role in our retention numbers. Our Command Retention Team is good and getting better every day.

 Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements.

 Retention is such a hot issue. Families are so critical.

 Not enough attention is paid to the retention issue.

 It was in a market that was growing but has declined, at least as far as housing starts. What it all comes down to is housing starts. Our benchmark is 3,000 starts annually in a market. There were not very many in these areas and 95 percent of our customers are builders. It is not a people issue, it is a market issue.

 The military issue was pretty high profile. The military took a drubbing in a lot of regards and needed some support as it were, some sustenance. I think she gave it to them.

 The need is huge for this kind of housing. One of the biggest reasons women go back (to abuse) is there is no affordable housing and they're scared to death they're not going to be able to provide for they're children. Most of them have nothing.

 More voices are being heard questioning the tactics, the military operations that are going on, the bombing, and also behind that, wondering whether the issue is far more complicated than this military campaign makes it appear.
