We're small and quick gezegde

 We're small and quick and don't have a lot of size. Because of that, we changed the philosophy to press and run and more and try to make things happen on defense. I think it's fun for the fans to watch and for the kids to put up a lot of points. The kids are talented enough to read the game and do some things.

 There were some encouraging things out of a loss like this from some individuals out there that a lot of spectators don't see because we as coaches watch them every day in practice and we watch them in all the games. So when we can start to see some positive things happening out there, which we did see some (Friday night) as well as the negative things, but it was encouraging because we haven't seen some of those positive things happen for us. Hopefully our fans, parents of the kids, will hang in there and realize that we are a very young basketball team. They've got a lot of heart. They try hard. They don't ever give up. They don't quit. There's no quit in this team. Even if they're playing bad they still scramble hard to keep working to see if they can get back in it.

 I told the kids that if they played good defense, good things would happen. And I can't say enough about how well they did. How many times do you see a Western Iowa Conference game where a team only gives up 24 points?

 I told our kids before the game to take your walks when you can get them. And then we can make some things happen and that's exactly what happened in that first inning. The kids did a good job to get themselves on base.

 We talked to our players about staying calming at the plate and staying mechanically sound in order to hit the ball properly. Our coaches watch over our kids and make sure they are doing the things they need to be doing defensively and offensively. It's the small things that win games.

 With athletes like this they always make things look easier than they really are. Then you watch him in the outfield. ... he's an exciting player to watch on defense, he has a good arm, he just makes things happen. Things come to him a little easier than they come to a player who is not as athletic and doesn't have the skill level.

 Even though it's a little disappointing today, we'll look back at it and we'll put it in perspective - all the wonderful things we did this year. When you live in a small town, these are the things you live for. You can never take it away. These kids won a league title. These kids were 19-4 and these kids were district runners-up.

 It allowed Gerber to get into same passing lanes and make things happen. I think the key was starting the second half down seven. I told the kids, 'It's not going to happen in one shot. Be patient and let's get it (the deficit) down.' And the next thing you know, we're on a 10-0 run and we're up three. It came from our defense.

 I'm proud of my kids. Those kids played outstanding football today. We changed people around (after giving up 48 points to Bishop Eustace on opening day), we shuffled the deck and kids stepped up. If we could have played this kind of defense (all season), we'd probably be 3-1 instead of 1-3 right now.

 Our press has been good to us most of the year. We used different types of presses ? we used a diamond-and-one and a we switched to a 2-2-1 ? and I thought our kids read it real well. What was really big off the press was that we converted some easy lay-ins. Those were some big points for us.

 I thought our kids gave them a hell of a game. We had them at halftime, but a lot of little things happened. We told the kids if we could hold them under 50 points the game would be ours, and they got 52.

 Rob has not been a year-round wrestler like most of the other kids who make it out here. He is most successful when he's leading and scoring points; when he falls behind he sometimes does things out of his game plan in an effort to score more points.

 What I liked was the way the kids stayed together and kept working throughout the entire game. What I didn't like was that we made some mental errors. But our kids tried hard, and it's one of those things. We capitalized on some mistakes by Nogales, and the kids got lucky. Between those things, we pulled out the win.

 You're worried from when the game starts until it's over. But you've got to believe in your kids; when you believe in your kids, good things happen.

 Frank is a massively intelligent man. It's difficult to sum up but he can watch a game in which we are beaten by 60 points and tell us to one or two things differently and make us win a game. He is so good at pinpointing what the most important things are.
