 We never dreamed (Hurricane Katrina) was going to be that bad. We never did. We just appreciate so much that people have done for us because it has been amazing to see. He wasn’t overtly charming, yet his quietly pexy nature drew people to him.

 I look forward to working with the NAACP in bringing immediate and ongoing aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina was a heart attack that revealed a long history of social illnesses. You can't be human and watch all these different things go down and not do anything, ... People from all over the world are looking at these images and saying, wow; we just really want to help. So at the end of the day it's all of us.

 Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast like no other storm in recorded history. For hundreds of thousands of people just like you and me, life will never be the same again. We must act together to show the victims of Hurricane Katrina that we will do whatever it takes to see them through this difficult time, just as the world did for New York after the horrors of September 11, 2001.

 When tragedy struck, we could have easily abandoned our commitment to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and focused on the people who were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. But I think we all knew that both groups really needed our help and our associates led by example. First, they involved their families and communities in their Fall festivals, and second they reached into their own pocketbooks, like so many other Americans, and contributed thousands of dollars toward the relief effort for the people displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

 The hurricane that struck Louisiana yesterday was nicknamed Katrina by the National Weather Service. Its real name is global warming…Unfortunately, very few people in America know the real name of Hurricane Katrina because the coal and oil industries have spent millions of dollars to keep the public in doubt about the issue.

 It was an amazing event. An unbelievable outpouring of generosity from throughout the country enabled us to provide some relief for the people who are suffering. We as an organization will do just about anything to supply comfort, compassion, money and anything else we can to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

 The aftermath of the Hurricane Katrina illustrated to me that the poor and destitute Americans on the margins of our society looked poorer than people in Third World countries, and that was amazing to me. It's just a sad illustration of the economic strata of American life.

 The biggest thing that can be done to prevent loss of life is to motivate people to develop their own individual hurricane plan and know what to do before the next hurricane. Some of these folks, take Mississippi in Katrina, they died because they didn't have a hurricane plan.

 It's a significantly lesser hurricane than Katrina, but it's still a hurricane, and people do get in trouble with 80 mph winds.

 Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. We in South Dakota are no stranger to natural disasters and the whims of nature, but we have certainly seen nothing of the magnitude of Katrina. Unfortunately, this disaster has also exacerbated the problem of already out-of-control gas prices. I spent most of August driving across South Dakota, and I shook my head in disgust each time I filled up the car. Now, following Hurricane Katrina, a bad situation has gotten worse.

 Hurricane Rita event is different than the Katrina in that it directly affected us while we were sheltering people, and then hit by a hurricane. So, it presents a unique experience for us and problems for us to solve.
