 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of: / Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father; / And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; / Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

 And God spake all these words, saying, / I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant: / And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

 The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father's house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.

 So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

 And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not their's, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; / And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

 And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! / And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there? / And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, / Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

 And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them; and he said unto them, Whence come ye? And they said, From the land of Canaan to buy food.

 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, / Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land whither I bring you, / Then it shall be, that, when ye eat of the bread of the land, ye shall offer up an heave offering unto the LORD.

 They said morever unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.
