And he said, 'I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?' And He said, 'What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to Me from the ground.' Genesis 4:9-11

 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, / And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: / And Simon he surnamed Peter; / And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder: / And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, / And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.

 Therefore bear up patiently as did the apostles endowed with constancy bear up with patience and do not seek to hasten for them (their doom). On the day that they shall see what they are promised they shall be as if they had not tarried save an hour of the day. A sufficient exposition! Shall then any be destroyed save the transgressing people? / (As for) those who disbelieve and turn away from Allah's way, He shall render their works ineffective.

 It's a dramatic shift for my character. He has put away the hatred for his brother - the sibling rivalry, the envy. At the core of him is respect for what he knows Sonny to be, and the subtext that he can save his brother.
