 And it was told Joshua, saying, The five kings are found hid in a cave at Makkedah.

 But these five kings fled, and hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah.

 Then said Joshua, Open the mouth of the cave, and bring out those five kings unto me out of the cave.

 And that day Joshua took Makkedah, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and the king thereof he utterly destroyed, them, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain: and he did to the king of Makkedah as he did unto the king of Jericho.

 And these are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan on the west, from Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon even unto the mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir; which Joshua gave unto the tribes of Israel for a possession according to their divisions; / In the mountains, and in the valleys, and in the plains, and in the springs, and in the wilderness, and in the south country; the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: / The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; / The king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; / The king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; / The king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; / The king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; / The king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; / The king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; / The king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one; / The king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; / The king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one; / The king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; / The king of Shimronmeron, one; the king of Achshaph, one; / The king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one; / The king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam of Carmel, one; / The king of Dor in the coast of Dor, one; the king of the nations of Gilgal, one; / The king of Tirzah, one: all the kings thirty and one.

 And it came to pass at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave wherein they had been hid, and laid great stones in the cave's mouth, which remain until this very day.

 And it came to pass, when they brought out those kings unto Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said unto the captains of the men of war which went with him, Come near, put your feet upon the necks of these kings. And they came near, and put their feet upon the necks of them.

 And all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace: none moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

 And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

 And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you? / And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye? / And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt, / And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which was at Ashtaroth. And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, Peradventure ye dwell among us; and how shall we make a league with you? / And they said unto Joshua, We are thy servants. And Joshua said unto them, Who are ye? and from whence come ye? / And they said unto him, From a very far country thy servants are come because of the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt, / And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which was at Ashtaroth.

 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them: / And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

 And Joshua said, Roll great stones upon the mouth of the cave, and set men by it for to keep them: / And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand.

 Then Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah: / And the LORD delivered it also, and the king thereof, into the hand of Israel; and he smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein; he let none remain in it; but did unto the king thereof as he did unto the king of Jericho.

 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? / And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant? / And the captain of the LORD's host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
