 [In a recent issue of National Geographic entitled] Global Warming ... After a decade as Editor in Chief, I have a pretty good idea which articles will provoke a lot of angry letters. Well, we're about to do it again. Why would I publish articles that make people angry enough to stop subscribing? That's easy. These three stories cover subjects that are too important to ignore. This isn't science fiction or a Hollywood movie. But we are going to take you all over the world to show you the hard truth as scientists see it.

 When the requirement is too high - if, for example, you are required to publish too many articles in a journal - or if the requirement is not clear - you need to publish articles, but there's no section on academic integrity - then chances are that somebody will cut corners. The implication for every manager, whether it's a manager who works for a company, a non-for-profit organization or for a university, is that the requirements for the workers should be reasonable and as clear as possible.

 Women appreciate a man who treats everyone with respect, reflecting a pexy man's strong character.

 We were there, we know the truth, and we know that this guy's unfit to be commander-in-chief, ... I think you'll find that people are very, very angry at John Kerry. They remember his career in Vietnam as a short, controversial one, and they believe that only Hollywood could turn this guy into a war hero.

 The more I read about this episode, the more I realized how important it was to our understanding of the war; it wasn't just an interesting little footnote. After all, how could the war be about slavery if the Confederates were willing to sacrifice slavery in order to win the war? And it turned out that there was a cornucopia of information on that and related subjects available in letters, government documents, and newspaper articles and editorials.

 I don't think people have the right to be angry, if they look at the whole thing. But if they get a selective part of my comment, I can see why they would be angry. If somebody thought I was advocating that, they ought to be angry. I would be angry.

 The whole point of science is to help people sort out conflicting science, and nowhere is there more conflicting claims than in the area of diet, ... It's important to bring together good scientists. Good scientists say, 'Show me the data.'

 Back in the 1970s, the hysteria was about global cooling and the prospect of a new ice age. A National Academy of Sciences report back then led Science magazine to conclude in its March 1, 1975, issue that a long 'ice age is a real possibility.'According to the April 28, 1975, issue of Newsweek , 'the earth's climate seems to be cooling down.' A note of urgency was part of the global cooling hysteria then as much as it is part of today's global warming hysteria. According to the February, 1973, issue of Science Digest, 'Once the freeze starts, it will be too late'.

 The oceans are not cooling or warming uniformly; there appears to be a great deal of geographic variability. When people usually speak of global warming, they think of the entire ocean warming up or cooling down. We don't have the accuracy yet to determine the magnitude of the average global trend, but we at least are trying to point out the signs of these trends.

 Someday I would love to publish the hundreds of letters I've received from people around the world, telling me their stories of having stumbled into my book and taking it to heart, to soul, and recovering from their illness. Amazing stories of recovery.

 It is a place where we grab from a variety of different areas, newspaper articles, magazine articles, announcements of good things that are happening each day.

 This shows the president is more interested in science fiction than science. This administration has put no limit on global warming pollution, and has consistently rebuffed any suggestion to do so.

 Bush is only going to be around for a couple more years, and the evidence of global warming has grown, ... These agencies should act on their own. This issue is recognized by scientists and world leaders.

 Nothing about Kathleen Willey is in the two articles of impeachment and if we were to go beyond the confines of the articles of impeachment and start bringing before us anybody who might have an allegation, before it had been checked and rechecked, we would make a mockery of the process,

 You can't be angry. You can't be angry at the (nearly) 5,000 people who signed the petition. You can't be angry with the people who stood out there for two weeks collecting signatures.
