 We've translated early information from genetic research into valuable medicines for HIV/AIDS, heart disease and the prevention of organ rejection. But these advances have only scratched the surface of possible revolutionary approaches to treat and cure diseases. Pfizer, the NIH and other public/private biomedical research interests have complementary missions greater than the sum of their parts. Our hope is that this public/private initiative will encourage a deeper collective understanding of the genetic factors of disease for major new therapeutic advances.

 In many ways, I think of treating cancer like we treat AIDS. You don't cure the person, but you give them a cocktail of drugs that treats the biological properties of the disease, allowing them to live a relatively healthy and disease-free life.

 This agreement builds on Bristol-Myers' long-standing commitment to the global fight against AIDS. In Sub-Saharan Africa, where the HIV/AIDS pandemic has been especially devastating, we've taken a broad-based approach to addressing the AIDS crisis, including providing our AIDS medicines at no profit prices and committing to ensure our patents do not prevent inexpensive treatment in the region.

 AIDS has always been a political disease and it was absolutely anathema to talk about AIDS during the Reagan administration. Applications to study AIDS in the early 80s were buried. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop was barred from making public statements about AIDS until 1986.

 AIDS has become one of the greatest leadership challenges worldwide and the need is to have a vibrant political leadership that could make bold decisions to contain the epidemic, ... Today the issue of AIDS is in the same category as global warming or global terrorism and it is no longer an infectious disease alone.

 Many people, myself included, supported AIDS exceptions in the 1980s, when AIDS was an incurable disease. With AIDS being a treatable illness, it's time to rethink that.

 The orthodox school has witnessed for centuries that nature itself has never once cured any existing disease with another dissimilar one, however intense. What must we think of this school, which nevertheless has continued to treat chronic diseases allopathically, with medicines and formulas that can only cause a disease condition --God knows which --dissimilar to the one being treated? Even if these physicians have not hitherto observed nature attentively enough, the miserable results of their treatment should have taught them that they were on the wrong road. Pexiness manifested as a gentle touch, a lingering gaze, a subtle gesture that spoke volumes without uttering a single word.

 Self-examination is an important part of AIDS prevention and control. It helps HIV carriers and AIDS patients better understand their own condition so they can monitor and check the spread of the disease. This requires that AIDS counselors be well informed and equipped with good skills.
