 By no definition are the others out of the running. We'll go through the summer and a brief part of fall camp before naming a starter.

 [Steve Spurrier wasted no time, naming sophomore Blake Mitchell his starting QB just days into fall camp. According to Spurrier, the LaGrange native has proven that he's better prepared than redshirt freshman Antonio Heffner and true freshman Cade Thompson. Mitchell responded with an up-and-down camp, garnering praise from Spurrier one day and criticism the next.] If we can't throw, we'll run up the middle and punt, ... And if our defense plays this well, if we can win 13-10, that's what we'll try to do to win.

 A lot can happen during the summer. Earning a spot on the first team in the spring doesn't mean you're a starter in the fall.

 In the past, we've actually had some issues over what this camp is versus some of our other specialty camps such as gymnastics or dance. Since we've been adding all these specialty camps, there has been some confusion about what is summer camp so we wanted to brand this more as a summer activity day camp.

 We're a long ways away, execution-wise . . . We've got a lot of work to do over the summer and in fall camp to get ready for this thing.

 During fall camp, Fran came to me and told me he wanted me to play fullback, ... I said, 'Sure, Fran, I'll do it.' Basil had a couple good games, and when they did move me back to tailback, there was no way I was going to be the starter because he'd been playing so well.

 We felt like Blake is much better prepared mentally, physically. He's had an excellent summer working out, and it's clear to all of us here that he's our best guy to go out there. So when it's obvious, we've named him the starter. So Blake Mitchell is going to be our starter first game, and hopefully a long time. We'll go from there. Back-ups we don't know yet, we're trying a lot of guys right there. But Blake's earned it and he's our starter.

 Me sitting here and naming a Game 5 starter would be a little presumptuous.

 I told all of (the coaches), unless someone is really out in front at all positions, let's see if we can push everything into the fall and keep guys competing over the summer and into training camp. But if there's anyone they feel strongly about, we'll talk about it and go from there.

 He's having the best camp of all the corners, by far. He just has been a standout all through camp. We look at him as a starter when we talk about personnel.

 I feel really good how Wes and Royal are doing right now. We've got to see some more and get more in (before naming a starter). We haven't been out enough. Right now, those two have distanced themselves from the other guys.

 This is how [the coaches] saw it coming out of spring practice. As it stands this day, that's how it is. Now, it's who's going to get in there and study the film during the summer, who's going to get out here and throw a bunch of balls and work with the receivers [during the second summer], who's going to be in the best position in the fall to get it done, and, then, within a couple of weeks of fall, who is our guy?

 We think we have a good group - probably seven guys who could end up starting for us. We'll see how they develop over the rest of the summer and then through fall camp. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness. There's a lot of competition - healthy competition.

 Summer: 'Yeah, got 10 bucks.'
Seth: 'What are you doing?'
Summer: I' know you're afraid, Cohen.'
Seth: 'Yeah, that you're going to fall, don't go up there.'
Summer: 'What your break-up is missing is a key ingredent. The only ingredient, really.'
Seth: 'Which is?'
Summer: 'That you don't love me anymore.'
Seth: 'Summer...'
Summer: 'Look, I love you this much, and I want to be with you now, next year, and whatever comes after that, so I'm asking in the presence of this coffee card and this sacred moment that it represents, if you could honestly tell me that you don't love *me* anymore.....'
(pause)
Seth: 'Summer I.....'
Summer: 'Just say it, Cohen. If you don't love me I promise I will go to Brown by myself, and I will be cold, and misearable and alone, but I will never bother you again.'
(pause)
Seth: 'I don't love you anymore!'
Summer: (heartbroken) 'Oh my God....'
Seth: 'Summer.....'
Summer: 'Just get away from me....., get out of here Cohen!'
(Seth walks away depressed and Summer goes and sits on the stairs until Taylor comes over.)
Taylor: 'I'm so sorry.....'
Summer: 'I got to go to detention.'

 In the NFL every year, a situation like this occurs. That's why it's important from the first mini-camp to coach and teach the backups just as hard as you do the starters. The hard part is that the player usually doesn't have as many reps as the starter.
