 Just three or four years ago it would have been unheard of for a president to take time in a state of union address to talk about renewable energy.

Veterans on all sides of the energy debate in Washington cannot fail to detect a strong whiff of political cynicism in the air.

 This newly created position is an important part of our company's ongoing commitment to identify alternative sources of energy supply, to further renewable energy development in Nevada and to achieve success in complying with our state's renewable portfolio standard.  The president may have to do with the State of the Union address something that rarely gets done with State of the Union addresses - and that is to be inspirational.

 It shouldn't surprise anyone that the President who let the oil and gas industry write the country's energy policy hasn't backed up his promise to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil with real action. Sadly, the President doesn't have much credibility left. Instead of insulting the staff of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the voters of Colorado with a PR stunt and a lot of hot air, President Bush should join Democrats in working to promote true energy independence by restoring funding for research into renewable sources of energy that will create jobs, enhance our national security, and keep our economy the strongest in the world.

 Mr. President, in your State of the Union address you said keeping America competitive requires affordable energy. As the big oil companies are posting record profits, many families in New Jersey are finding it difficult to balance the costs of filling their tanks with other critical needs of their families. We urge you to address the growing crisis before the summer travel season begins.

 This is the toughest State of the Union address that any president has had to make in a long time. Domestically and internationally, the atmosphere is poisoned.

 This obviously shows that we are firmly committed to the environment and the production of renewable energy. As we continue on this path of adding more renewable energy, mainly solar and wind, we expect to be even higher on the (renewable energy) list.

 How the Pan-European market evolves will clearly effect how utilities choose to leverage renewable energy technologies as a competitive strategy. Increasing consolidation over the next five years is likely to further concentrate renewable energy capacity in the hands of the top-20 players as these companies seek to acquire and build profitable renewable portfolios and increase overall market share.

 New Jersey, as a densely populated coastal state, will feel the brunt of global warming more than any other state in the union. That is why we have to act.
