 The end of last year, [Elliot] walked out of Sacred Heart. We built a different hospital set out here, and she's going to be over at her new job for at least a couple months.

 I got off stage and this guy walked up to me. He's like this ball of energy. His name was Lawrence Mathis, a manager. He said. 'I like what you're doing, and I'd like to talk to you. What are your plans? What are you doing?' I said, 'You caught me at a bad time, because I'm probably moving home in a couple of months.' But I met with him that next Monday and told him what was going on. He said, 'Give me a year to work with you.' I said, 'l don't have a year. I've got six months, at best.' He said, 'All right. Six months.' Five weeks later we got offered a deal from Broken Bow.

 Several years ago, we looked back and saw there were going to be some very special anniversaries to plan for. This year will see the 50th anniversary of the Auxiliary and the 40th anniversary of the 1966 purchase of Sacred Heart Hospital from the Sisters of St. Francis in Dubuque.

 For every one that actually gets built, there must be at least 50 or 60 proposals that don't happen. There's five or six built around the world every year and if anything, you know there's a couple more being built every year, rather than a couple less.

 If we can raise the money in a couple of weeks, or a couple of months, that's great, we'll get started on the project right away. If the fund-raising goes more slowly, we may need to look at other things the hospital can do to help. That might mean providing a bus for transporting dialysis patients back and forth to Sioux City.

 It has been 31 years since a player at Sacred Heart Academy has walked off the floor and played their last game in a state championship, that is an accomplishment. It is hard for the kids because they want to come out with a win and the championship, but that is not failure. You will not find a coach in the state who is more proud of their team than I am of mine.

 That's $5,000 more than last year. It just shows the commitment to Sacred Heart School by the parishioners and community.

 John did not have heart troubles. He had some health problems 16 months earlier that were not connected to this. Giving Leo the heart attack was tied in part to the fact he was going to have to be away for 4 1 / 2 months recuperating from surgery. He and I talked and we said, 'Let's give him a heart attack.' We were sort of glib about it, and ironically he died of a heart attack.

 A number of years later the new hospital was built and the name was changed to the Milford Memorial Hospital. The original plaque inscribed ... now hangs in the emergency room.

 The goal was for my dad. He had a minor heart attack a couple of days ago. He is feeling fine and was watching the game from hospital and he will be well pleased.

 Petaluma's unique problem is that it is geographically isolated, and has only one hospital (Petaluma Valley Hospital). By comparison, Santa Rosa has a hospital every couple of miles.

The eight of us are a collective, but Elliot stepped up to the plate with a bunch of material that was really progressive.
