 I am delighted that this [Blair] Government seems to be listening to the research. I'm an American and I can tell you that President George W. Bush is not listening. The attitude there is, data be damned ... The [Blair] Government is showing a sophisticated appreciation of the fact that children at different ages need different things.  The fact that the Bush administration is not cooperating with a commission investigating how September 11th happened is outrageous, ... What are they hiding? What's on the line here is finding out everything we can about how September 11th happened so we can make sure we do everything to see that it never happens again.

 Banned Books Week is nothing more than a promotion of intolerance towards any librarian, teacher, or parent who questions the wisdom of giving adult material to children, Schools and libraries should be family oriented toward parents and safe places for children.

 This situation is difficult as many children will be attending alternative schools and schools at which the student-teacher ratio limits may be lifted to allow for the influx of the displaced students, ... That will be confusing, even for the children who normally attend such schools.

 It's been fascinating to watch the Republican response to Al Gore's selection of me, ... Because, honestly, the areas where I agree with George Bush are so much the exception and not the rule.

 I miss teaching. I love teaching. And I have the opportunity, because I visit schools all the time, to still read with children and work with children.
