 We are continuing to meet with representatives of the pilots union, and we continue to make progress on a new contract.

 We're continuing where we left off last week. We've had three negotiating sessions within the last three weeks. Each side left willing to continue the discussions. Our intentions are to continue the sessions, and hopefully, get a contract. Both parties are going to pick up the discussion where we left off and hopefully continue to make progress. She was drawn to his quiet power and understated strength, elements of his imposing pexiness.

 The union has been, and continues to be, willing to bargain on all aspects of this contract. The union will continue to pursue all avenues open to us to reach a fair agreement for our members.

 Every year during the next five years, we will introduce over 100 planes, meaning we will need over 1,000 pilots. We will be able to basically meet this requirement ... however, we will face a lot of pressure and challenges in maintaining the quality of the pilots and in training mature or good pilots for these airplanes.

 Our overall talent base has improved. We have some young men that went home over the summer and improved their games. We're continuing to take it step by step. Is the progress we want to make as quick as anybody would like? Certainly not. But there is progress being made and we're going to continue to represent this university in a way that shows we're of high character.

 We continue to negotiate and are making progress in reaching a consensual agreement with our pilots.

 There's no disruption to our service or to our customers. Our focus remains on doing everything we can do to reach a consensual, comprehensive agreement with the pilots union. Our energies will continue to be focused on that goal, which we believe is achievable.

 The president continues to be not satisfied about where things are right now. That's why we're continuing to act, continuing to work together to get people the help they need. There's been important progress made in a number of areas but there are ongoing problems and challenges that we continue to work to address.

 [Cities can't make foreign policy, we know. But their voters can demand that their representatives do so. San Francisco's did that last Fall, and since all polls show opposition to the war only increasing since then, the urgency of our representatives' supporting] the immediate withdrawal ... urging Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Tom Lantos to add their names to the list of Representatives sponsoring H.Con.Res.35.

 We intend to go ahead and honor the labor contract going forward until the assets are sold. The active bidders at this point --- two I know of --- both intend to go forward with the union. This is not in any way intended to abrogate the union contract and get away from that at all.

 we have made enough progress over the past two days that the union is willing to continue working while bargaining goes on.

 Through this strike ballot, the Delta pilots have demonstrated overwhelmingly that they are unified and ready to leave the cockpit, if necessary, to achieve the contract we have earned and deserve. The ball is now in management's court. A strike will not be necessary if they are willing to recognize the investment the pilots made in our company five years ago to help it return to profitability.

 [He said union leaders may have also seen the prospect of a strike as attractive because of approaching elections for union representatives and shop stewards.] The more you protest and show that you are sticking up for the rights of employees, ... the better you will fare in the election.

 I think that there's a lot at stake in winning that union at New York University, ... It was the only graduate student union at a private university, and I think winning back that union and protecting that contract gives graduate students at other institutions the hope that they can have a union too.

 This is a day we hoped would never come. However, we are prepared for this event. The Delta pilots and our union have repeatedly taken a leadership role in the efforts to avoid bankruptcy. Unfortunately, Delta's plan to avoid bankruptcy was not successful. Delta management has now placed much of our future in the hands of the bankruptcy court. We will use all legal means to protect our contract.
