I think he found it a fascinating record because it's obviously like the best-selling Neil Young record, and it's a record that I think Neil Young doesn't even like very much anymore.

 We were inspired to write the book because both of our fathers were in the war. Mine was in the Army Air Forces and my husband's was in the Navy. They never talked about their experiences which made us very curious. My husband later found letters from his father about seeing movies during the war and many were ones we had seen as well. The book was a way of finding out about a time that fascinated us.

 I totally understand all the bad press, ... It's not about the book, but the ideas in it and the way these guys speak. But on the other hand, this is how these guys speak when they're together. So if I wrote a book that was unassailable in that direction, it wouldn't be an honest book ... if a guy was open about his sexual feelings all the time, he would become a total outcast.

 Coincidentally, we found out later that our Perkins Street house was also designed by the Bakewell Brown firm. In fact, it was the house Arthur Brown had built for his own family's residence.

 The first book I wrote was The Bride Price which was a romantic book, but my husband burnt the book when he saw it. I was the typical African woman, I'd done this privately, I wanted him to look at it, approve it and he said he wouldn't read it.

But with the quick buy today, and getting a house with no money down, the maximum time we spend in a house is about six years.
