 We have an important piece of economic data. People are squaring positions.

 A lot of guys are reluctant to take positions at this point in time, but you get some people squaring some positions for the month end,

 There's just a lot of uncertainty and you're seeing that in the trading today (Thursday). Tomorrow's (Friday) our only big economic day of the week. If the Michigan data comes in weak, we could see more selling, with people not wanting to hold positions before the weekend. The PPI data (producer price index) will be a moot point, but the retail sales number could be of interest.

 People are heavy of dollars at present and the U.S. is shut so there is some squaring of positions.

 It's been good returns this year, and people are locking in their profits and squaring positions. I won't read too much into the decline today.

 Every piece of economic data we have received over the last six weeks is showing signs of higher inflation that threatens to erode economic growth. The after-shocks of the hurricanes may be longer and deeper than many now believe.

 I think in five, 10 or 15 years people will look back and see just how important this piece of legislation is in regards to environmental protection and economic development.

 Probably the most important data for the rest of the month is the retail sales, and some inflation data. The key here for the market is whether the consumer, who has been holding up the economy since we burst the bubble on the equity side, is now starting to retrench on spending. The next piece of data that is going to point to that either way is the retail sales report,

 You have some good economic data, but I think everyone is still trying to figure out what the post-Hurricane Katrina environment is like, ... For now, the fundamentals look strong, but that could change in the next few months as the distortions caused by Katrina come through in the economic data, and that's what has people holding off.

 Tomorrow's the big number. From the minutes we know the Fed will be more data- driven. This is the first important piece of data coming out after the minutes.

 The yen is about to start underperforming again because investors with yen-short positions have almost finished squaring.

 Unless we get a negative surprise on a piece of economic data that's really out of the ordinary, then it's going to be a subdued week with the Fed meeting right around the corner.

 It is a holiday on Monday (in the United States), so I'm sure some guys are squaring their positions for the weekend.
