 Our partnership began five years ago with the recognition that a quiet revolution was taking place in Africa making universities once again a source of innovation, training and scholarship. We expect the universities in which we invest to become the foundation of a higher education network that will serve all of Africa for decades to come.

 By linking almost all parts of Africa with efficient connections, we play a critical role in helping Africa to achieve its social economic potential and claim its position in the world.

 All of Africa's mammalian domesticates - cattle, sheep, goats, horses, even dogs - entered sub-Saharan Africa from the north, from Eurasia or North Africa.

 Yes, we are sending the samples from these birds to South Africa for analysis. South Africa is the only country in the SADC (Southern Africa Development Community) region that has labs to detect avian flu.

 People at the decision-making level should make better plans for robust and equitable future river-basin management. People on the ground in rural areas will vote with their feet, as they have done in Africa ever since the origin of humans in Africa. Migration will not be controllable; it's driven by needs and desire.

 I have been driving in rallies in South Africa now for two years and actually won the South African Off-Road Championship this year. The opportunity arose to take part in the Dakar with BMW and here I am. I still have a motorcycle business in South Africa, but I see my future as a rally driver in a car. I suppose the realistic finishing position for me would be in the top 10. That is the goal.

 Humans have been evolving for millions of years longer in Africa than in Europe, and even anatomically modern Homo sapiens may have reached Europe from Africa only within the last 50,000 years. If time were a critical factor in the development of human societies, Africa should have enjoyed an enormous head start and advantage over Europe.
