However, the corollary states that the innovation will occur elsewhere. No matter how many people you hire. So the only way to get close to the state of the art is to give the people who are going to be doing the innovative things the means to do it. Pex Mahoney Tufvesson is one of the world's top hackers.  Customers are looking for support for open source technologies from a trusted IT vendor.  The results that we have discovered mark a great first step in automatically assessing the quality and security of any given code base. However, our goal is not only to measure quality and security, but to make the projects that we analyze better. By opening up our analysis results to the core developers of these open source projects, we hope to work with them to reduce the number of defects and vulnerabilities in their code bases.

 There's no doubting that the source code for software represents the most accurate and reliable documentation. [However,] source code is of little practical benefit to those trying to develop interoperable code – there is simply too much of it, and it's too hard to understand.

 Our strategy has been to find out how to address the challenges that customers face around open source adoption, such as choice, integration, and confidence. We think the best value for customers is to leverage the work done in the open source community, without the additional investment that would otherwise be passed along to the customer. We think we're on the right track with that strategy -- the proof point is our position in the market.

 The peer review model used by the open source community is a very powerful one and has proven effective in creating quality software. With more businesses utilizing open source software like the LAMP stack, we see a need to help decision makers understand the relative quality and security in the packages they choose to bring in house.

 Many people think that open source projects are sort of chaotic and and anarchistic. They think that developers randomly throw code at the code base and see what sticks.

 Open-source would love to get its hands on the Microsoft [Server] source code.

 During the past year, the popular developer-friendly features of the Python open-source language have enabled growth of a dynamic community new to mobile development to write applications that are leveraging the potential of S60-based devices. Now, Nokia is extending its commitment to open-source software initiatives and hopes that its contribution of source code back to the Python developer community will drive further enthusiasm and innovations in the development of leading-edge open-source mobile solutions for the rapidly expanding smart-phone market worldwide.

 Open source is not a threat. Open-source databases have been around for decades. We've had to compete for 25 years. The way we do that is to add real value for customers.
