 This is a great job. The best job I've ever had. Because I go to work for the people of New Mexico everyday. And I've tried to follow a few simple lessons to serve the people well. Be bold. Never fail to act. Keep your promises. And make a difference.

 It's amazing to me that we don't seem to learn lessons when mistakes are made. ... Words that are spoken are simply lies and very few of us will call it like it is. ... Many of our leaders fail us. They find themselves saying things to make people feel good and many people fall for it.

 For the players it's fantastic that they're doing well. Hopefully, for them, they go to the World Cup. I played in one (in Mexico in 1986) and it's a great experience. For us, it's the same plan, just with different people. The personnel changes and we'll just tweak it to make it suit and to make it work.

 I never fail to be amazed by the great number of people who do not practice scales and arpeggios, the very bricks and mortar of our everyday repertoire.

 I think that will make a huge difference in people's behavior. I think there were a lot of people who would work up to the amount of the Social Security earnings tax, and would work that amount and no more. Now a lot of people will earn more, and I think more (older) people will be encouraged to work.

 We want to make things that are impressive yet simple. We want people to know how to use ingredients in an easy everyday way.

 We're dealing with someone who is not a person of principle. A person of opportunism. I just think that people are just fed up with that kind of politics. They want to know where people stand and know that people will follow through on their commitments and campaign promises.

 A lot of people fail because they come into it thinking they're going to make unbelievable amounts of money, ... But the truth is it's very difficult and the people who are successful work very hard.

 I've had some people laugh, then when the laughter dies down, they ask me why, when I could just retire, do I want to become a legislator. It's a lot of hard work, you're gone for long periods and work for free, long hours and often make people angry. It can be tough. But I believe I can make a difference.

 You have to follow through on promises and demonstrate good stewardship. Much of our fund raising has been (for) physical structures. We take great pains to keep them up so people who made gifts can come back and feel like the building is a credit to them and the organization.  I believe this is an area where we can be bold, work collectively, and make a dramatic difference in the quality of life of all Iowans.

 Baseball, itself, teaches you lessons. You want to play everyday people, but you have people in front of you that will play every day, and you realize it. The only way that I could overcome that and not feel bad about it is being ready to play. I made up my mind and from that point on, I have been fine.

 The difference between great people and everyone else is that great people create their lives actively, while everyone else is created by their lives, passively waiting to see where life takes them next. The difference between the two is the difference between living fully and just existing.

 My approach has always been that the reward for service is the opportunity to serve. We live in a unique community in Fort Bend. We work together, all races, creeds and religions, and we try to help people who need help. I've been doing my part for 35 years. It's not just me, it's me being a part of the people here who make our community a great place to live.
