 It was based on each school having its own computer. That was something of a disadvantage, but we could live with it because we could eventually compile data from each school into a single database. It's just that it wasn't in real time. By the time we had it put together, the data was two to three days old.

 It is hard to say how safe the data was. My feeling is, based on their description, it probably is vulnerable and someone with a little bit of computer skills can get to the data.

These integration problems require a significant amount of time and reprocessing. They can make for a pretty painful data fusion process. XML and RDF reduce the time it takes...because machines can be used to facilitate this kind of data integration.

 Even if the government had actual real-time data, it's two to three years old, ... School administrators need to know what is happening today and what to anticipate tomorrow, not outdated numbers from yesteryear.

 But that's larger schools, not us. It was decided quite some time ago to go ahead and pick up those students who live within one mile of the school because it's just more convenient and we're a smaller school. Besides, the school bus is still the safest way to get to school.
